Lightning Woes

Let's hoping the state can rally to maintain this iconic team. Grassroots sport needs this.nothing more importantly than this club to survive.sixers and lightning are hand in hand state cornerstones. Lests rally.

The state has picked up the responsibility in the past. BSA ran at a loss in 2023 and presumably in 2024 so are in no position to take on more cost.

Interesting that at the same time as having no WNBL team in the region, Queensland South girls basketball has managed to perform very well. Some would say the existence of an WNBL is not required to produce elite junior players or grow grassroots basketball in this time of accessibility of all sport online.

Isn't bsa collecting a girls fund subscription or subdicees. Can't that be redirected to most valuable female program. We need to keep state teams strong and support.

My understanding is that the small loss in 2023 was primarily due to investment in the new State Basketball Centre - I would think it was a one-off.

I also understand that some of the BSA Female Participation Levy was used to provide some additional income for the Lightning players via coaching/school visits etc.

It wasn't to fund the team and I would guess the annual budget for the team is much more than whatever this levy generates.

as a long time supporter - It breaks my heart the possibility of not having a team - it's just unthinkable.
I'm pretty sure this set of circumstances has arisen once or twice before.
We can't lose the local WNBL pathway - it brings visitors into the state, media attention and SA sporting icons.
On a good night a crowd of a few thousand can assemble for the right game.
Adelaide national players / international imports all run clinics - we don't want that lost to our future generations.
I fully understand they don't run on fresh air - I'd just love to see what made us one of the best rebuilt moving forward.

let's get back to putting in to / for the team not just taking from it all (at all levels). Must cultivate continually.

Culitivate posivity. Totally concur. Least make that the ongoing theme for sixers and lightning. So much love for lightning across this city. Surely can motivate a culture to respond positively to hour of need. Home-grown in culture.lets rebound and take proactive vity approach.
