I don't think the team will change much, Asia Cup -I’m guessing...

TBD guard
Elliot in for Sherrington
Hocking
Olechnowicz
Smith
Moke
Tavete
Ryan
Richardson
Mapp
Johnson
Manyok or Clague

-Couple of other bigs with a shot over those at COE. Ilic, Trout etc
-PG most important player in asia and a problem area for this current sapphires team.

Agree with Weedy. Team won't change much if at all looking at that list. Last team mostly did enough to get another go.

You have to shake your head about some selection tho. It isn’t based on performances from what I have seen. If selected you get a return for free ticket in some cases and it looks harder to get out than in.

BTW glad Herbert is leaving CoE. I had high hopes for him when he started and then he wouldn’t leave the golden triangle of ACT/VIC/NSW and development of many dropped of.

Change in nt coaches would be my next move. Introduce a merit based process might be a start and positive change. Some transparency is needed. Far too many better ones are overlooked. Next one will no doubt be a PL buddy.

Other than that all good!

What is going on here with selections?
3 bottom agers from nsw sets the tone. A couple of bottom agers overlooked in my opinion - vic metro Jones is an outstanding player and sa metro Gribben looks also to be the goods - both will dominate in my opinion at AJC U16. I've followed Gribben from a far - not from sa but for me was a stand out at ecc and easily beat two named underaged nsw players in the game I saw - works hard both ends. See she has been selected as a bottom aged u16 all Australian afl player . Don’t follow afl so can’t make comment on this.
Some COE girls not invited to the camp- and some not in AJC U18 vic teams invited what’s going on here? Some not tested at the highest level seems off.
Absolutely agree qld and vic should dominate this squad with excellent players and how they have finished at AJC u16 2024 and u18 2025. SA hp must be pretty ticked off with this selection when they finished 2nd at AJC 18s 2025 and 3rd at AJC 16s 2024 and only have one selected- Elliot. Also think her name is Hardin was also very good at both tournaments.
Do we know when the team will be selected as is it promoted on social media as a "training camp" not a selection camp?
Like the name says just a dad don’t know a lot but have seen a lot and appreciate emerging talent
And I disagree @Massive a few talls, forwards and to somewhat guards were not utilised in clutch games think there will or should be changes

Genuinely curious how are these selections are picked... does it go off rep stats, who you know, if their parents were somebodies…?

Interesting fakalata being picked when she's been kicked out of the Victorian hp program for numerous off court behaviour… no doubt she’s talented but not sure how this is allowed… she must be a shoe in for the team.

I also think Jones deserves a run in the squad.

Definitely think vic and qld will be dominate but think Elliott should be in … Hardin should also get a run in the squad.

Who to replace Herbert do we think?

I haven't seen the other countries rosters apart from NZ and the Phillipines.

Mapp was the C at oceania, backed up by Johnson, Clague and Manyok, 1 C too many imo.

If your squad is correct(which probably isn’t accurate) having only Trout as the other 6’2 big would be a mistake.

Minimum of 1 but preferably 2x 6’4+ in asia is needed, if they are mobile...
Mapp is a solid rebounder and a good defender and unfortunately 1 of the above Cs is out injured atm so Manyok would be a must imo.

Great to see the Crocs actually play some warm up/trail matches. At this point I wouldn't worry to much about results, they beat China in Game 3 without Will Hamilton.. and Antonio Browne looks really really good.

It seems Luke Paul is the injured player, he wasn't suited up for any of the games.

the 3 centres in
Y Basaran VIC 7'1
A Mabbott VIC 6'11
A Machar SA 7'2
look to be really good at this young age.

Add Jayden Cecil and if they can add/find a 6'9ish power forward who can shoot its looking like a really good team. Many more matches/tours leading up to the world cup and they could do something.

Its to bad the NBA global Academy closed and Basketball Australia didn't expand the COE intake to 18-20 to cover the loss having more players (with exposure to the US system) was clearly working, big big loss

A team like the following would be great..

Browne/Cecil/Watene
Hamilton/Paul
Aryang/Byrne
Jorgensen/??
Basaran/Mabbott/Machar

Not bad Boomboomer. Watching the YouTube clips our talls and inside game looked great, although not too many 3pt highlights.
On the team, I worry that we are be too inside heavy which may build too much shooting pressure on too few?
Given how well AB is playing, I don't think you need 3 x PG. Maybe Cecil to SG.
Would also shift Aryang to a PF and Hamilton to a SF which unlocks another shooting spot given our need.

PG - Browne + Dammers or Watene (one of)
SG - Cecil + Paul + ???
SF - Hamilton + Byrne
PF - Jorgensen + Aryang
C - Mabbott + Basaran + Machar

Saw a few of the highlights and was impressed with Machar's development since last year. At 7.2 if we can get him the right coaching he will be unstoppable.

Byrnes and Hamilton will have to move to a SG/SF role.

Keogh is a great talent. Strength to the basket his major asset, also picks up a high number of boards. AUS u16s have many players who excel in this area and would have been tough choosing between the likes of Jorgensen, Byrne, Hamilton, Keogh, Wilson, etc as can't have them all. Given the AUS depth, if a secondary option is available in NZ then why not seriously consider it. As Baseline indicates, the loss to AUS will be NZ's gain.

I don't think so, unfortunately. I think the team will be 12 of the 14 that went on the China tour, mainly because it was part training camp, part selection tournament.
