McCarron calls it a day

NBL veteran Mitch McCarron has today announced his retirement.

He told ESPN 'Do I want to be healthy and strong to run around with my kids, or try to get back for one or two more years as a pro? I've chosen the first one'

Steindl, Cadee, McCarron, Pineau, lots of good roleplayers have called it a day this off-season

Congratulations Mitch! Was brilliant in Cairns and key piece for Melbourne.

Probably the worst and best thing he ever did was come to Adelaide. Got paid before it came to an end, but also held him back a bit.

MC I fixed it for you

"Probably the worst and best thing he ever did was come to Adelaide. Got paid before it came to an end, but also wasn't interested in proving his worth or showing accountability after being gifted 30 minutes per game regardless of how he played."

Never forget Mitch "Money Makin'" McCarron who then had to apply for a COVID bailout. You couldn't make this stuff up.

I quite liked him as a role player for Melbourne but wasn't up to being "the guy" in Adelaide. He probably cops more shit than he deserves for that. It's not really his fault that the Adelaide execs saw more in him than was actually there.

He was what he was, jack of all trades, master of none except maybe rebounding from a guard.
If he didn't take the money from Adelaide and played for a team that he could simply be an extremely good role player, he might have had a few more years. But getting offered all that money it came with expectations that his talent couldn't justify. So became a scapegoat when he couldn't score 30 most nights which his salary implied.
Was an important cog in Melbourne, if he'd stayed for true market value he might have had a few extra years. But it seems the Adelaide experience cost him those extra years.
Wonder if Cameron will fall prey to the same thing.

McCarron said the main reason he retired was injuries. He said the last few years he had a number of injuries that were forcing him to over-compensate on the left side of his body causing a whole new set of problems. He also said the main injury he had last season at the Breakers still hasn't healed and likely wouldn't before the start of the season, so enough was enough.

He won some championships in Europe plus that NBL title with Melb in 2021 so maybe he thought success would continue to follow him to Adelaide? As we all know it didn't. He got the big contract but got progressively worse each season at the Sixers ultimately losing his starting spot. At the Breakers he was signed to be their second-string PG but fell out of the rotation and ended up being their third-string PG really.

It was a disappointing end to the career of "Money Making" Mitch McCarron, arguably one of the best nicknames invented (RIP Homicide) but with all that and things going on with his family I can understand why he's pulled the pin now even though at 33 next month probably could've played another 3-4 years.
