This feels like "Pimp my Ride" where LK part owns a vintage yet run down Adelaide 36ers vehicle he desperately wants to polish up.

Matt Hurt, lol, defence certainly not a priority at Sixers, it won't be him.

Favours would be a great get, if he's healthy. Has had back problems in the past. Also the Utah connection.

Just wait tilSixers post who their new import will be ,like to see a power forward similar to Mark DAvis ,be nice ,have a fresh face ,and make sure he's not injured and fresh ready to go for training and games . Hopefully have a new fresh face too .

I've been wanting the new Mark Davis to suit up for the Sixers since the original retired! This year’s team is already making me think of the early 90s with a mosquito fleet of shooters. All they need is a tough rebounding big man to finish the look!

Yea, watched a lot of Favoes since I'm a Jazz fan. They tried to turn him into a guy who could at least take the occasional corner 3 if he needed to and it didn't work out all that well.

If you're just playing PF and Jazz connections you might get Eric Paschall who was playing in Puerto Rico and in Italy and just finished their season I believe. Was a decent 3pt shooter on the Jazz and had a good rookie year at the Warriors.

If it was 2019 or so I'd be in Favour of this, but I can’t see him being up to it anymore. If we’re going that route, we’d be better off bringing Trez back, because at least we know the guy can still play!

Derek Williams or Boogie currently playing for Mets de Guaynabo with BC maybe? The other big dude Romero would be decent somewhere in the NBL he's a strong forward

I love the idea of bringing Joe Ingles home. He could bring so many basketball connections and so much knowledge back into SA if he was invested here again.

I'm pretty sure Ingles is another local they PO'd who won't come back. He'd be Melbourne bound if he went anywhere if I were to have a guess. Depends on how he wants to set up with his kids too

There is no way Ingles would play in Adelaide for Adelaide, he loathes the club.

Don't know about him hating the club, certainly didn't like the contract offer from Smyth but that's ancient history. The Wells & Cotton connection might change that.

I am not sure whether Ingles is that sought after in the International game now, and I struggle to see him having much left in the NBA, but I'd imagine Ingles asking price would probably near on match Cotton's and he wouldn't come cheap. If nowhere else is vying for him NBL teams certainly will be.

I think Joe may be more likely to retire than play NBL - and I say it for these reasons.
1) His body is slowing down. Father time been catching up with him for a while now. Hes been "slow moe joe" for most of a decade and its not getting any quicker. Im not sure he's ready to jump into a physical league or really has it in him to keep grinding.
2) His family/autistic son. Uprooting can be very difficult for children with autism and moving back to Australia may not be on the cards if his son has some sembleance of routine in the US.
3) His Boomers aspirations realistically are over. He doesnt have a theoretical chance to play for (the way Patty seems to think he does). He was a passenger in the 2024 team and unless an inconvenient asteroid hits our forward stocks, Joe Ingles will not be playing another major tournament for Australia.
4) Price tag. Will Joe Ingle's potential asking price justify the spend for an NBL team? I struggle to see Joe asking less than at least Cooks or Delly money to play in the league, but can he contribute like them still?

Let's be honest, Ingles if he wanted to play wouldn’t be playing for a retirement fund, he has plenty so I doubt he would be asking for the world $$ wise

5) the 'tarnishing the legacy' factor. His reputation is high, and what he’s achieved is awesome, so why would he play here in his declining years and risk people seeing the worst of him?

When Cameron signed with the 36ers, wasnt someone on this board claiming they offered him 2.5x what any other club did?
Now people are suggesting they've outbid Perth for Cotton (I'm not so sure, I think it's more likely the money is similar but he just couldn't stomach more time with Rillie)
They've got DJV and Humphries presumably on good money- and Olgun's figures (if you believe them) already showed them to be a big spending team.
Now they're talking about big name power forwards.
If all (or most) of these things are true- will Adelaide be the highest spending team in the comp?
Pressure really on Wells.
Grab your popcorn.

Adelaide have been high spenders for a while now, the pressure has always been on.
Between Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne there's much of a muchness expenditure wise.

If we get a good rim protector 5 ,humpries will come off bench, return of Trez is awesome ,now for one more piece and aim for one thing ...championship,no suspensions,no injuries, took Illawarra twenty plus years to win so we can do same ,bring title back to city of churches.

Player satisfaction is secondary to outcomes. Humphries probably wont like coming off the bench but if it leads to wins and works well for the team then so be it.

If Adelaide sign Matt Hurt, then obviously people will go down the championship buying narrative if they haven't already.
Are Adelaide just making the same mistakes in thinking spending money on as much talent as possible is the answer? Or do they look closely at what Illawarra, Tassie and Melbourne done in recent years?
I think Wells only knows one way and that is to score more points than the opposition.

It's not Gary Clark as I think he's resigned in Japan recently. After being linked to a posable return to Illawarra coach Tatum has said Gary's loving that Japan money to much.

Typical Adelaide. Always spending big. I don't know how this fits within the cap??
Cotton must've commanded the largest contract ever to be ensnared so quickly. Harrell would be on crazy money. A couple of absolute marquees in Vasiljevic and Humphries. One of the most highly sought after locals in Cameron... and now talk of adding #3 in MVP voting in Matt Hurt??
I was sure I would see a thread on here about Adelaide rorting the cap by now!
[yes, this is all said tongue-in-cheek, as I know how one-eyed we all are in Title Town... no way we'd make the same salary cap cries as we would about Melbourne, Sydney or Perth!]

Well FWIW I feel pretty uncomfortable about all this. Cotton was one thing but we shouldn't be able to bring Trez back too and now potentially Matt Hurt? I don't like it at all, just seems like we're taking this piss now.
If we had have left it at Cotton and a couple of cheaper imports that would be fine with me.
Master Chief
A few hours ago
Zodiac, but why do you feel uncomfortable? Do you think it sounds dodgy or driven by some other forces? I tend to agree. If Adelaide sign Hurt, it's not really good for the league. Imagine how Cairns must feel right now.
Zodiac
A few hours ago
I feel uncomfortable because I think it's unfair. Like you said with Cairns they can barely afford anyone and we're here loading up with an all-star team.
When the Kings signed Delly & then KD I was vocal about my dislike of it and potentially triggering an arms race and now here we are. Then Melbourne will load up to keep up with us and Sydney and we'll have too much of a top heavy league.
I would've liked to see Trez at a Cairns or Breakers or something just to help spread the talent around. I do hope the Matt Hurt thing doesn't happen too.

Best backcourt in league? When did DJ jump up the list although granted Cotton is elite. If he was paired with someone like Ili I'd agree instead of a chucker who'll shoot it everytime he catches it.
And best front court, Humphries not even in top half of starting centres and Cameron is not a forward. And if it's Hurt, how the hell are they going to share the ball.
Adelaide have tried this before trying to buy the best players they could and it was a disaster, especially chemistry wise. Waiting for Herman to pipe up about building culture, IH will sulk on the bench, and could be one of worst defensive teams in NBL history.
Then we have a coach that's hardly shone so far.
Illawarra won with a team that worked great together, not just a bunch of big names chucked out on court. And had a coach the players played for. Why not go out and give Glen Rice jr a call FFS.
Calling it now, another disaster coming up.

I think it's got more chance of blowing up than winning it all too, I just can't get why Cotton agreed to join this circus.
If Humphries comes off the bench I don't think he will sulk. He will know if he wants to go somewhere else he will need to impress and put the sulking crap behind him next season otherwise what NBL team would invest serious money in him again? His disgraceful effort in our elimination game against SEM still pisses me off.

I think people are forgetting that Monsta , DJ and IH played together last year so each know what they are getting.
I'd love Antonios Cleveland as our third import

And we still missed the playoffs (play-in's don't officially count). Now we've added the best player in the league, a dynamic scorer to pair in a backcourt with another dynamic scorer who's never seen a shot he hasn't liked, what could possibly go wrong?
Master Chief
A few hours ago
Also, Adelaide don't need to sign Hurt for the sake of flexing muscle any further. They probably need some all round game where defence and rebounding is essential. How often do we see talented teams declared champions or unbeatable so prematurely. I keep forgetting Adelaide also have Cameron who was another big name free agent. Even Harris, White and Kenyon are reasonable signings. We don’t need to go after Hurt now after investing in Trez again. Less can be more in this situation.
Zodiac
A few hours ago
We could probably use someone who's willing to consider playing some defence. With Trez coming back there already aren't enough shots to keep everyone happy imagine adding Hurt to this? 4 x 20 ppg scorers with only a cursory interest in defence. We'll have to average 120 a game just to be a chance to win games.

Exactly right Zodiac. Need someone with some size who can defend the pick and roll, set good screens and rebound. Clark would be a decent option, but Hurt just isn't what this team needs.
The front office has certainly done pretty well this off-season. Are there flaws in the roster balance again? Absolutely! But they have gone out, made two big plays and landed two of the best imports available in the NBL.
On top of that, they have addressed the most glaring reason why they were eliminated last season: zero play-making outside of Davis! SEM took the ball out of his hands and when he got the ball to other players NONE of them could put the ball on the floor and create a basket! That's not going to happen with White, Cameron or Harris on the floor, because they can all shoot and they can all make plays.

KET

Defence wins championships, Adelaide MUST go for a super defender for their final spot.
I'm curious as to what Ice thinks of this?
Harrell is an odd choice, won’t space the court, didn’t work well with Humphries last year and isn’t going to be the defensive unit we need. And probably very expensive too.
If you’re going to be a hyper active offence, Cotton with the ball, Humphries rolling to the basket with DJV/Cameron spacing on the wings for open 3s is the way to do it.
I agree with the sentiment - if you’re a Cairns fan you’re royally pissed. They deserve more help IMO.
I feel like this has the NBLs or LKs hands all over it. I love the 36ers putting effort into a talented squad but geez give Cairns some love!
