Probably just echoing what Hooley has been saying, who even did not seem confident on that in the latest marketplace episode. In saying that, would not shock me if they pull this off.

Would have preffered Hurt to Harrell, starting next to Humphries, and then it simplifies that last import piece. Harrell has just complicated the balance. Adelaide will look strong on paper with Hurt but they really just need a simpler piece.

No thanks last thing we need is Hurt. I would much prefer Creek, assuming there was any truth to that rumour.

I heard that he'd rejected Adelaide's offer and was in talks with Illawarra?

Once again going with big names instead of finding complimentary players for Cotton.
Only need to look how Tassie and Illawarra went about it the last few years.

Hurt is only 1 of. 3 they are currently talking to and my understanding is he's not the preferred choice , and that he may drop out of the running as 36ers have shown less interest in him compared to the other 2

Gazee, you said in the Cotton thread something like "look out if they get this guy" ( or something) in relation to the PF. Was that player Harrell then? Or if the player didn't eventuate can you tell us who it was?

Boogie was one of the players in negotiations which I believe still is and change from yesterday seems to be down to boogie and hurt , 3rds out priced himself from most clubs except Sydney looking at him now

This was besides trez , that was not even in the conversation from the people I was talking to around the organisation and managers , honestly didn't think he would return but seems from the talk the issues he has was with KD as did a number of players

Gazee,

"3rds out priced himself from most clubs except Sydney looking at him now"

What does 3rds mean? Is that code for Creek?

I too have heard the DeMarcus Cousins rumour but not sure that is much chance, especially given how top heavy it would make the roster. But yes he and Cotton are teammates in Puerto Rico so perhaps BC is working on him.

Cousins and Harrell will be a very slow frontcourt and not much shooting and defense

Reply #965824 | Report this post

Master Chief

Matt, it would be. And it goes against everything they've said from the beginning. Wanting to play fast. Three point shooting around Humphries. A tall guard. Stretch big. Cheap bench player etc etc, so who knows what is actually going on there. And that's not any disrespect to the posters on here who kindly share inside information. Just seems like Adelaide have been driving a narrative to distract from the fact they were probably also waiting to pounce on Cotton. That domino fell and it opened the door for Harrell to want to return. The Creek rumour made sense, but Cousins does not make a lot of sense to me, but it would give Adelaide a powerful line up unlike anything the league has ever seen. If they have already gone down the all or nothing path, they may as well stick to it. If Cousins really wanted to dominate, I am sure he still could.

Hopefully Cousins has improved his attitude because that was always a huge issue in the NBA.

Does Wells have history with Cousins too maybe?

Can't see any obvious connections between Wells and Cousins. But Matt Weston once said it's not a hard sell at times on getting US imports, basically you can sell them on coming to a English speaking country that's like the US and they'll get set up with a house next to the beach.

Cousins has been playing in Puerto Rico, Taiwan and Mongolia, so could just be a case of wanting a change of scenery?

They're not exactly quality leagues so aside from team fit I would be concerned about how he would cope at NBL level? I've just seen quite a few "big" NBA names come out here and either get shown up or intentionally take it easy to save face. That's one thing I'll give Trez he didn't just turn up for a cheque.

I doubt Cousins would have changed his attitude. I am sure he could well be more modest around much lesser talent than he was used to, but like Harrell, you probably have to take the good with the bad and accept him for what he is. I don't think you can come to the NBL and just be here for the cheque like you can in Taiwan or China. Most teams won't tolerate it and the money in comparsion is modest to make that worth it. I think players done with the NBA would see it as a challenge and a good chance to see more of the world. If Adelaide signed Cousins and he is on the same team as Cotton, you would imagine Cousins would be coming with serious intentions. Playing with Harrell could be a factor also.

If there is a chance to get Creek, make it happen. If for nothing else than the "healing" factor for the fans and club.

I think Adelaide needs a younger and hungrier import.

Cotton is 33 this year. Creek I think similar. Cousins would be 35.

An article today by Michael Randall is suggesting Adelaide are keen on Ingles, but also admits it is unlikely. Who knows what that actually means.

Obviously it would be great, but Ingles will also turn 38 this year, and if it would be in place of an import then Adelaide are really only going with Harrell and Humphries as genuine bigs.

Might not be the popular opinion here but I think Adelaide should only go with Ingles or Creek if it means they can balance the roster elsewhere with another import even if on the budget side.

Ingles is cooked, would be the slowest player in the league, no way should we go for him

My guess on Ingles is that even if he does return to Australia and decides to play basketball he'll set up wherever they think is the best location for their kids. It might be Adelaide, it could be elsewhere, but I don't think the team he plays for would be the deciding factor.

Ingles likely couldn't offer more than a bit of shooting and some passing, while being an absolute turnstile defensively at this point.

No wonder the 36ers are keen on him.

I wonder if there has been confusion over the NBLs random "Who am I?" Social media post (which most seem to think is Anthony Drmic). I feel like this is what joshupending might have seen and automatically thought it was Adelaide dropping a hint because of the Sixers uniform.

Most seem to think it's Drmic? His age, number of games, debuting in Adelaide and winning ROY, playing for 3 clubs and having a brother who also played NBL makes it very very clear who it is.
Yet some geniuses think it's Creek FFS.

To assist here's his NBL bio. Gives a few hints, unfortunately hasn't got the picture of him wearing 22 for Adelaide like in the post.

Biography
Became an NBL championship winner in his first season with the Tasmania JackJumpers with the feisty sharpshooting guard now looking to build on his 236-game career in NBL25.

Came to Tasmania having already amassed 199 games in the NBL in two separate stints at the Adelaide 36ers, and with the Brisbane Bullets in between and would go on to play a key role as a start on the JackJumpers team that won the NBL24 championship.

Grew up in Melbourne with his older brother, Frank, an NBL champion at the South East Melbourne Magic in 1996, and went to the Australian Institute of Sport ahead of his college career at Boise State University starting in 2011.

Was allowed to return in 2015/16 as a fifth year senior and went on to produce 13.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists to finish his career as the all-time three-point record holder with the Broncos.

Joined the Adelaide 36ers for the 2016/17 NBL season and was Rookie of the Year on the back of producing 6.0 points and 3.3 rebounds in 14 minutes.

Was part of Adelaide's Grand Final team in 2018 and then provided 10.6 rebounds, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 2019/20.

Joined the Bullets for the next two seasons before returning to Adelaide for 2022/23 and was strong with 10.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Stayed in Adelaide for the NBL1 Central season helping the West Adelaide Bearcats to the championship ahead of a first season with the JackJumpers in NBL24.

Was a key contributor on the championship team before another standout season with the Bearcats before returning to Tasmania for NBL25.

Phantom, it doesn't matter who it is. Simply saying it could have been mistaken as a signing tease in the absence of any other recent social media activity that would suggest Adelaide have signed Mitch Creek. That’s all.

Just read an article from a few days ago by Michael Randall who suggests with certainty that Adelaide are in a two horse race with Illawarra for Hurt. Suggests that Illawarra have more cash to work with but that Adelaide are not out of the race.

Obviously this isn't anything new, but might just give that rumour more credibility and maybe put to bed the Creek rumour.

If Adelaide can spend this on Hurt, why not just spend the same on someone more needed?

The article also suggests that there are two spots left. Assuming this means its a wait and see as to if Rasmussen remains a DP or not.

Sixers want to hope that hawks win the bidding war as who will play D in that team. Hurt is a turnstile and yes I know nbl media loves him. Hawks can cover his defensive inefficiencies. As always imo.

Rhino, most trackers have him as DP listed still, but it could be subject to how the roster fills out according to that article.

Dunkman, yeah, it would an impressive off-season on paper, but still haven't heard a single word about defence. Someone like Brantley is what they need.

I too thought Rasmussen had been promoted to the roster, if that's not the case and he's going to remain a DP great frees up another roster spot then.

I think earlier in the off-season when the NBL Media guys were doing the Sixers depth chart for next season I'm almost certain they didn't have Rasmussen listed as a DP like they do for other teams DP's, but if so that just could've been an error on who was doing the graphics. Wouldn't be the first time the NBL have screwed up their own players contract status before.

But if the mainstream media are saying the Sixers have two spots left, that info has been leaked directly from the team which means either Rasmussen isn't on the roster next season or if he is they're planning to release him like the JJ's just did with Walter Brown, a DP who was contractually going to come onto their roster next season.
