Another new logo…..

NBL facebook teasing some kind of lightning bolt logo. Any ideas what this would be for?

In season tournament, blitz, new franchise, NBL NBA clash?

Blitz isn't worth a teaser...

It’d be weird as a tournament logo, but it has the NBL logo in the background so maybe?

A new franchise wouldn’t have a proper logo yet, but maybe it’s a teaser for a Gold Coast Thunder/Lightning/Storm or something

Green + Blue colours... Canberra or ACT is also a possibility with the updated arena.
Lightning bolt or thunder has little to with the GC.

I feel like I'd rather see the Cannons return name wise if it was a Canberra side

ACT thunder/lightning perhaps over localised Canberra, like they do Tasmania and not just Hobart.

Imagine if they tried to copy the Rapid League concept from the NZ NBL lol

I like the Rapid League, not sure I would want to see it in the NBL though

It's an in season tournament.

"Reports out of Australia point to the introduction of an in-season tournament for the 2025-26 NBL season.

The tournament would be played as mid-week games and each team would play four games in the tournament, two home and two away.

Games would count towards the team's regular season record but would also have a scoring system for winning quarters and whole games that counted towards the tournament. The tournament silverware would be decided by a Grand Final between the two teams with the most accumulated points.

An in-season tournament has been part of the NBA since the 2023-24 season with the NBA Cup giving teams additional prize money and another trophy to play for. The NBL version has used that as inspiration."

Yeah, and in talks with 7 to show the games on a Wednesday night (presumably 7mate?)

Crap concept logo for a league if that's the case though

Does the NBL copy absolutely everything the NBA does?

Under LK yes, it does.

Thank goodness for that. Both (the NBA and LK) know what they are doing and how to make our beloved sport successful.

Certainly don't love it all but, that it's here to love at all, I love that.

Maybe I am a purist or old fashioned but I've never cared for distractions in my basketball seasons, be they all star games or in-season tournaments. The way I see it, youve got a championship to win and anything else is a waste of time and effort. The only reason an in-season tournament makes sense this year is it provides a small bite size portion for Channel 7 to latch on to and for that much I am willing to give it a concession.

Spot on.

I'll add that the original cup was created for Fox Sports because when they launched in 1995 Ten held exclusive rights to the league.

Given the latest probably safe to assume it's the cup tournament thing (if not, Blitz).
