36ers Training Squad

I heard that only 4 players were asked to go out and train/tryout with the team. Apparently they are all juniors. Ingles, Dodman, Benson, and Sutton. I think if this is true they all diserve it. Dodman can only play inside. Ingles can only play outside. Benson can do either. Sutton can only play outside. So if anything i can only see dodman and Benson getting through

Ingles will be at the AIS so its moot. As for the others, i'm not familiar with Dodman... who does he play for? Sutton might have had a good year, but he is not even close to NBL yet. He is < Gower/Hambour which says a lot!

BLue Collar,

Dodman plays for Sturt. He's 6'9" and went away with the AIS team to Albert Schweitzer Tournament in April. What makes you think Ingles is going to the AIS. He's not World Championsip age. Or do you know something we don't.

Hoop-a-holic barring a very poor nationals one would think the Gents at the AIS would ignore his year of birth and take on Ingles. While he may not qualify for the Junior Worlds he may in the future qualify for the seniors. Surely our very own Mesecke can convince Marty that this lanky exciting talent is well worth a punt

What players do you know from interstate??? There is a guy the same age in Queensland called State Weigh who is in the Top 10 in Rebounding in their ABA, and is starting for Rocky. And how is Marco Deric doing in WA. He was pritty good at U/16 Nationals. Taylor Bell is playing ABA for Bendigo, has he improved. And surely the VIC have Oliver and Bathie. I reckon nothing is settled until after they all get together at National's next week. Should be some good competition.

very true. Although as we both know Ingles has the type of body the AIS loves (and so should they). But yes you are on the money with the wait and see attitude. Look at it this way if there is no room next year for Ingles in Canberra, BA should be pretty happy cos it means a stong pool of talent in Australia for that age-group.

Don't get me wrong I hope he gets there, but it might be that they bring in a bunch of younger guys in preperatrion for the next junior worlds cycle. Keep our fingers crossed

Next worlds in 2005 right? Wouldn't he be ther right age then?

I caught a bit of his play tonight - I'll go out on a limb and say this - Newley was 5 times better than Ingles in top age 18s.

There, I said it.

No Libertine, Ingles is 1 year too old for the next worlds group.

Serious? Bogut etc were top age 20s when they played last year.

When are the next champs?

Do you reckon that will factor it in though?

I have it on good authority that Puddifoot, Bradley and Gerlach definately rec letters to train.

Just looked up Junior World Champs - seems your right! Ingles WOULD qualify for the Oceania qualifiers, but that wouldn't serve much purpose, I see. Interesting to see if he's overlooked or not, then!

I understand Bradley being training bait for Adelaide's big men to bang against.
Goulash is ripe for a spot.
Claytoe(being a 3/4man) to me could never become an NBL player due to his size & poor ball handling.

Vandenberg at 6'4, has NBL point guard size & a better handle, he should have received a letter before Claytoe, Goulash & Bradley. No ABL point guard can defend Vandenberg, he is simply too big at the 1 spot.

I now have confirmation that Benson has a letter and Ingles doesn't. He could be probably be made into like a Matt Illman type player who hustles and gets his 10/12 points and a few boards a game.

benson...what an absolute disgrace, he does close to nothing at abl level, and is simply another player to benefit from playing for sturt.
shame on you sixers, that is embarrassing....i could name 10 players who deserve a shot before him...dont try comparing him to illman...no comparison.
what a joke??

I agree with the bloke that has no name. Benson is a joke. He talks trash all game, without the game to back it up. He wouldn't get a run with Woodville or Forestville let alone the sixers.

Ok, now look! This is a continuing debate that will rage on well into the NBL season! But can we stop talking about Van-da-smoker! We understand that no one at ABL level can guard him because he 5inches taller than most ABL 1's. Issue one over!
Issue 2!
I have been out to alot of games this year and if someone hadn't mentioned who Benson plays for I wouldn't have even know who he is. So forget him!
Well done on the choices by the 6ers.

well if x factor even knew how to play the game he would know what he is talking about. its simple that some people get jealous of other peoples hard work and them succeeding. And maybe if people got off the sabres back about the 6ers and worried about their own game they would have a chance. They are a good club with alot of young talent coming through their mens squad and womens. And for anonymous you sound like a joke. if you were good enough you would have been picked but you must not be.

Big Johnsen, sound like you were beaten up by your sister when you were a child.

I don't think anyone on this forum is jealous of anyone else, simply due to the fact, that, you are dealing with a bunch of ego manics!
No one cares about Sturts uncanny run of player picked for 6ers teams. Everyone has there opinion of why it happened, but now times are changing.
So,
Big johno, have a coke and a smile and shut the bag up!

big johnson,
i am not claiming that i deserve a spot on the sixers roster, and never did claim that...if you could read you would finsd that i stated i could name 10 players that deserve a spot in front of benson...nothing against the guy personally, but i just think there are many better players than him, not currently in the squad...gerlach, webber, campbell, sullivan, pochintesta...need i continue??

I wouldn't call playing for Sturt and and getting approx 15 mins per game hard work....The guy hasn't earn't anything, and its got nothing to do with jealousy, just about everything that Mike man said.

Question, if Benson played for Woodville or North, do you think he would have been picked? The answer is of course not....mainly because he is hot good enough to even get any time at those clubs.....oh but he's good enough to be a 6er.

ur the joke Big Johnsen.

There are reasons behind the players that have been picked to train. There age has alot to do with it, and the letters did not even say that these players were guaranteed of training with the 6ers. Gets your facts straight guys.

whoever you are anonymous...you are kidding yourself, what possible reason is there for benson to train with the 6ers....i cannot think of any reason..??..age...gerlach is three times the player what benson is....and maybe one year older...

Availability must be a big factor as to whether anyone trains with the sixers. I can't see a young man giving up a stable, well paying job to become a rookie on $20K. The argument over choosing one player over another based only on how well he plays or which club he belongs to is to some extent invalid. Also whether they are the best available or not at this point in time is also somewhat irrelevant, the whole idea is to develop these players in an NBL environment rather than an ABL environment which they are now trained.

Gee, if Gerlach is 3 times the player Benson is, based on last night, Benson muct be lucky to be able to walk andd ribble the ball at the same time.

Gerlach couldnt have hit the side of a barn last night, and Ng just took him to school at will.

Marcus Ng would be a good one to train with the team. He shut Gerlach down Sat night along with Mr. Wilson. Marcus is a great defender, and competes on the o-boards. Didn't see much from Gerlach apart from a bit of whinging, and telling his team mates to "F*#% off". That's what you want to see from a player to a player!!!

I've got a better idea, about the whole 'Youth Squad' thing I proposed a long time ago on the old forum - how about the under 20 state team just does the Sixers pre-season, whether or not they are playing ABL?

The only thing Marcus shut was the door after he walked into the stadium! There was no shutting down Mo'!! I'm not sure if you had a dream that Marcus was his bro! Not one player from either team had a brilliant defensive game! Tiger were putting up shots at will! The only problem was their shothouse %! Props to Woodville for keeping there composure after the Jump that the Tigers put on in the first 1/4! It seems to be a trend! Jump in the first 10mins, crumble like chalk after that! Well played to the Woodys!

TEAM isn't spelt with a like BAG!
