An idea for the NBL

Just a thought - would it be better for the long-term development of basketball talent in Australia if each NBL team was limited to only 1 import player on their squad? This way, their spot would obviously be filled by another Australian / NZ born player (depending on the team), allowing for their gametime and development to most likely progress.

Thats all well and good for giving as many Australian players as possible an opportunity to make it in the NBL but what about the enjoyment value for the fans. Basketball in Australia at NBL level is not only about players being good enough and getting the opportunity to play at this level, but its also a spectator sport where the fans demand a good product. I think it needs 2 imports to lift the quality of the games.

Also, Basketball in Australia does not pay millions of dollars like the NBA. Many top Australian players would not be attracted to a position on a team when they can study for a professional career that pays a lot more.
