Tough times for the Kings

Some dramas with Sedric, it appears:

The Sydney Kings' import woes continue with the NBL club likely to terminate a deal with Sedric Webber before it begins if he's not released from his Venezuelan club in time for tonight's match against the Brisbane Bullets.

Kings management was frantically trying to get a sign-off on the 198cm swingman who will be forced to return to the US if the paperwork is not completed.

If Webber does not play in tonight's match at the Sydney Entertainment Centre his services will be of little value because he could not meet the requisite NBL requirement of seven games to qualify for the finals.

The Kings had sorted out things from their end and Basketball Australia has approved the move, but a Kings spokesman said Webber's team had not released the 29-year-old New Yorker.

Yes. The NBL/BA side of things is cleared, it's the Sth American club who is stuffing around with releasing him, which I guess makes it an issue under the FIBA. To be honest with you, I don't think the King conspiracies go quite as far as having the FIBA in their pocket.

"New Sydney import Sedric Webber nearly didn't make it onto the court after his clearance was delayed until just four hours before tip-off. But the big American, brought in to replace the injured Rolan Roberts, played 23 minutes off the bench and made an impressive start with seven points and six boards."
