AXA FINALS SERIES 2006

It's that time of the year!

AXA FINALS SERIES 2006

What's going to happen?
Who will the Sixers play?

Who will finish 3rd?

1 Kings

2 Tigers

Those two are obvious.

But, who will finish third???

3 Sixers played 29
won 19
lost 10
percentage 100.6

4 Hawks played 29
won 17
lost 12
percentage 104.6

5 Taipans played 26
won 15
lost 11
percentage 102.1

6 BULLETS- OUT OF IT

SIXERS/ TO PLAY

A Crocodiles 27th
A Taipans 28th
A Bullets 4th

Win-loss ratio maybe 1-2 or 2-1
To many games with too little rest time.

HAWKS/ TO PLAY

A Bullets 27th
H Tigers 28th
H Razorbacks 4th

Win-loss ratio 2-1 or 1-2
It's hard to play the Bullets away then Tigers at home within 2 days. Should thrash Razorbacks.

TAIPANS/ TO PLAY

A Wildcats 22nd
A Tigers 25th
H Sixers 28th
A Crocodiles 3rd
H Kings 4th

Win-loss ratio 2-3 or 1-4
Very hectic, too many games with almost no rest time while playing 1st, 2nd and 3rd all with in 12 days. As well as cross town rivals Townsville and the Wildcats. However there fifth spot looks safe if they beat the Crocodiles.

Projected finish:

1 Kings
2 Tigers
3 Sixers
4 Hawks
5 Taipans
6 Bullets
7 Wildcats
8 Pirates

Then, 5 V 8 Taipans V Pirates : winner V 4th Hawks winner V Kings
6 V 7 Bullets V Wildcats : winner V 3rd Sixers winner V Tigers

Sixers would rather be 4th and not play Bullets or Wildcats. I think they would rather play Taipans or Pirates. If they won, then they would play the not so good anymore without Roberts, Kings. Or being third and winning against Bullets or Wildcats then playing away to Anstey and his Tigers.

I think the Sixers will once again be better off to lose all three matches and have a crack at the playoffs again and see how they go. They could try Gower and Hill as guards. If they want to lose, why not. Have Rees as centre, see him star. Still be interesting.

So, what do you think will happen?

just too add...

this is the second year in the row Adelaide would be disadvantaged if they win.

Does it make sense? No.

The NBL should make a different format that made third play 3 games rather than one.

2 are home.

That would then prove how much better they are then the other team. 1st possibly being easier than 2nd is just luck. 6 and 7 being harder then 5 and 8 is ridiculous meaning teams may be better than the ones ahead of them but they just can't win when they are tired in the marathon of a season or due to injuries or bad calls from umpires.

But this has happened twice.

Maybe a different format?

How bout no final 8 out of 11 teams. A final 6 would be much much better, or even a 5.

"this is the second year in the row Adelaide would be disadvantaged if they win"

How so because you would rather see them play winner of Taipans vs Pirates?

They are not disadvantaged, just merely a team we match up better against (Taipans) will finish higher than a team we struggle against (Bullets)

That is not the leagues fault or the teams fault, thats just the way it is. If we finish third than we play a lower placed team than if we finish 4th thats the way it is.

Agree though it should be a top 6, especially next year with hopefully 12 teams in the competition.

Agreed.

Final 5 out of 12, add extra salary cap, get better players then your gower and hambour to be more like hill and better would mean the teams would have more to play with and maybe not do so badly if someone gets injured because you have an okay player to fill in before a replacement comes. That would mean bigger and better competition and hard work. Top 5 means there would be huge battling for those spots. Interest will come, followed by harder, closer games then, more support, more sponsors, then FTA.

Could be the right way.

1 gets bye,

g1 2v3 each 3 game series
g2 4v5

loser of game 1 plays 1st each three game series
winner of g1 v winner of g2

winner v winner 5 game series

perfect.

if your second or third you will get a second game if you lose.

1st gets through the first round.

yeah, that's true, they match up differently to teams better and worse...

Maybe more salary cap would get those players like hill in positions like gower. i don't mean putting hill down i mean having 2. More quality players is what i mean. Not too many but just enough to get those players. That would then help them survive the marathon of a season wich often decides what happens when injuries occur and fatigue comes in.

Just an idea...
