Carparking at the Dome

Just for general information, the people who park the cars at the DHD are volunteers from our District clubs. The club gets an amount taken off thier bill to BSA very time their loyal supporters volunteer to help with the carparking. Last Saturday was paarticularly difficult because of the size of the crowd and of course the heat. To everyone who waited for their turn and was patient thank you, to the older lady who felt the need to actually get out of her car and abuse the volunteers who had been standing in the 40plus heat since 4, Shame on you

Whether people are volunteers or not, that type of behaviour is inexcusable. What is it with people who think they can talk to/abuse other people like that.

i gotta tell you i have felt like running some of them down this year. whilst i understand they are volunteers at times it appears to be rafeties(sp??) rules - just park where you want to.
i have seen straighter lines on circles

Better to have someone trying to control the situation than an "all in." Anonymous, I reckon you should get out there and show then how its done then.

I dont think we were briefed with all the do's and dont's of how the Dome Carpark works to be totally honest. I think credit goes where it is due, and to all my team members as well as the hierachy of the club that helped, sweaty hats off to you. And it also sounds that it was a good thing I were at the back gate when this lady decided to abuse my helpers, lucky for her I wasn't around, or some friendy advice would have been sent her way! Keep up the hard work everyone that helps and pitches in to repay the debt to their club as much as possible.

maybe BSA should sell the rights to managing the car park e.g. to the council to reduce rates - a genuine cost - or to the ticketing agency to possibly lower inside charges on tickets?

reducing the significant debt of the clubs through the volunteer service - and obviously ascribing a value to the service, can't be improving the BSA financial position, especially when revenue from car parking could/needs to be increased?

the revenue for the carpark I believed used to go directly to the council it was council run.

the revenue at least the way it stands now benefits basketball itself.

it isn't easy being a volunteer especially in the driving rain or the extreme heat

hats off to anyone over the course of the season who helped their clubs out.

it isn't easy dealing with the general public at the best of times let alone in extreme conditions

Nathan Durant have you stopped to think that the lady concerned might feel badly about her actions however, she probably feels quite justified in her reaction she had paid for her carpark therefore she was paying for a service she felt she wasn't receiving.

Although her actions were probably deplorable I'm sure someone abusing her back does not help the situation at all and in fact gives basketball and north adelaide a bad name if that had been the case. I'm sure you would have felt justified in standing up for your 'workers' but your words of friendly advice just might not be what was required.

anger is often best deflected by a smile and turning the other cheek. she wasn't a coach you could tech foul or send from the stadium!!

Hmm ... volunteers or no volunteers, the carparking (specifically organising the exit of) is and always has been a total s**t-fight.

I don't see any solution other than forcing specific lines to exit specific ways. Police control of selected exit points (eg. people that park in the soccer club MUST turn right).. or maybe to create another (offical) exit in the far corner.

One day it may be dealt with... however nothings changed since I have been a season ticket holder there.. which is.. hey.. you'd never guess: since it opened.

ShaneD as an ex season ticket holder I used to go to the Rachael Sporn room and have a drink or two even if it was coke with friends and discuss the game

by the time we had downed a few the carpark had cleared considerably and exiting was bliss

last time i went i parked in a side street and had no problems with traffic

volunteers do top job what do people only x number of cars can physically leave the exit at any one time you dont need to be einstein to work it out take a little be of patience that is all
people turn up 5 minutes before the game expecting a red carpet
want a carpark park with you name on it
then here is a great fund raiser idea for BASA you want a park then pay basa to reserve a patch of ground

No.. The carparking is a s**tfight.. and has ALWAYS needed resolving, and doesn't take Einstein to work out that something (anything) better could be done. There have been a wide range of volunteers of differing ages and skill level.. but all have one thing in common: Its not their fault.

Unfortunately, being in the position they are, they will continue to get the odd angry shot until something better planned is done with the exit rampage.

BTW, the recent trend of making only 1 lane to exit does NOT help at all.

Solution - if you are a season ticket holder, buy a carpark pass. It works out cheaper over the whole season and you enter the carpark from the office side of the building. You can usually park only metres away from the door. It takes me 60 seconds from the time I enter the gate until the time I'm in my seat.

We were in the hold up at the car park on Sat night - one of the problems as we were leaving was because an ambulance was trying to get through to the Dome. I have never seen so many wankers pushing their way forward determined NOT to let the ambulance in. I felt sorry for the parking people who were doing their best to clear a path. In the end, an ambulance guy just got out and hoofed it for the stadium. I hope the person was OK.

Why don't you just park in the backstreets and walk for 5min?

Be active, and you can get away much quicker aswell instead of being stuck in traffic which is more annoying than the carpark situation

Not sure on the exact numbers the Dome Carpark can hold - but with the sheer volume of cars, it is always going to be a problem, not matter who or how it is managed.

The main problem is IMOA is that a fair majority of spectators show up 10 mins before game time, expect to get a park and buy a ticket before the game starts - and get frustrated if they miss tip off.

End of the day - look at a Crows game - people turn up 6-7 hours before the game to avoid traffic and get a good park.

So the question is how do you educate 2000 fans that turn up last minute to get there earlier? Not an easy feat at all, as not everyone can spare 2 hours to get there early.

But if I was to level any criticism at all, is that the side gates are getting opened later and later every game and are not been manned at all, so the corporate people that go to Apollo could not get in - till one smart cookie relaised the gate was not padlocked, and opened and a lot of people snuck in with out paying for parking.
