tony blair - you obviously didn't do your research or got someone to write your speech but you can't have any one in the 36ers, or in the NBL or WNBL

Who does everyone think will be the "rising stars" this season?

Interesting thread and i like the conditions of no NBL Talent.

Mine would be: (maximum one from each team)
David Shephard
Jye Watson
Andrew Puddifoot
Jason Dix
Steve Pilkington

I don't think Pilkington is playing this year, is he?

If there are no club restrictions then :

Cam Wilson
Darren Ng
Jye Watson
Jason Dix
Jordan Dodman

If we're allowed 1 per club I'll take :

Darren Ng
Jye Watson
Danny Phillips
Jason Dix
Matt Elder

The latter being possibly the worst defensive starting 5 in history.

Ng/Dodman from Sturt ...

Yet you dropped Wilson when forced to choose one from each club.

What do you have Ng playing for both the Warriors and Sabres in 2006 Hoop!?

No, but how many good big guys are there in ABL in 2006? Forman & Hambour are both 6ers, the rest are not so great.

So if I were to keep Wilson in there and drop Dodman, the 5 spot would be a big step down. I figured that was the best lineup for each situation.

Just thinking on that - is Elder actually back this year?

Vikki Kelson a definite in the womens. She should given so much more opportunity when she played for Lightning. I still remember the story where Vikki was given the last couple of minutes in a Lightning game and she turned Jan down, then quit at the end of the season. She knew she deserved to be treated better and a couple of token minutes for an experienced player isn't fair..

Well if you were the new coach and picked someone from another team...I dont think you would be the new coach for long with your club being mega fined for poaching :P

eh! poaching Yogee it goes something likes this

you sort of make it known you are looking for players...advertise the training time & venue, leave flyers in change rooms, accidentally on targeted players windscreens.

At no stage do you say to player x that you would like him to player for team y. you get people to tell player x he would be better of at team y instead of current team z.

when players x turns up at training asking if he could 'try out' your club y sends team z a letter saying that player x has attended training.

you might have intimated, cajoled, hoodwinked but never ever poached cause that's against the basketball bylaws.

...maybe the player doesn't like teh club their at and they call an ex-coach of theirs... I would consider that to be having a player fall in your lap.

A palyer who used to play for the club you are the coach off wants to "come home" - I would consider that to be a player falling in your lap.

Clown! :D

Players only do that if they feel that the coach that is there at the time is goodenough to improve there game. So is that really falling in your lap or good for the club cause they have pick the right coach in these players eyes. To either bring them back or get them to come across cause I'm sure most players would look at who the coach is and what they can offer before they made the move or they would stay where they are. So I feel its more to do with the coach of the team then just falling into the club's lap.

OKAY - Look at it this way:
From a coach's point of view, the player falls into the clubs lap. From the players point of view, the player wants to play for that coach...
