Midnight Basketball

Spotted this on the NBL site and thought it was quite interesting - the West Sydney Razorbacks are supporting 'Midnight Basketball' which is (in a nutshell) a program aimed to keep kids on the straight and reducing crime.

It runs on Saturday nights until midnight in an attempt to keep "at-risk" kids away from antisocial behaviour during trouble primetime. e.g., if they're playing basketball, they won't be out getting trashed or slashing your tyres.

"No Workshop, No Jumpshot"

After launching in the USA in 1986 it is now active in hundreds of American cities
*The program includes a team based competition and a series of life-skills workshops
*To be eligible to compete players must attend a workshop dealing with real-life issues
*Competition is open to 12 to 18 year olds
*Participation is free and includes transport and dinner

Rumour has it that the number of tyre slashings in the area before midnight has been reduced by an average of 57. The number after midnight has inexplicably increased by the same amount.
