Loss of Players

Do many Clubs have players that only play one of the two seasons due to other sport or just don't want to commit to all year.
I was just wondering as basketball is one of few sports that runs all year round.

Well, I'm not sure myself, but clearly a lot of sports just simply can't be played all year round, (cricket and AFL football). It's actually an advantage bball can be played all year round.

I wonder if they had the opportunity would other sports run all year long. My guess is yes.

i think its stupid that basketball goes all year round. kinds need a break and the summer break is the best break they could have, and also why play summer if there is like a 9week holiday right in the middle of the summer season.

The perfect fit would be one longer season over Winter and have most of the Summer off. Give kids a break they may stay interested for longer.
I just thought it was me that thought it was a bit of a weird set up.

interesting points here - whilst everyone nominates and rolls up for summer - it will stay.

Some other points of view are worthwhile - ie 1 main - big season, having a break etc

But i know i find my own breaks and would be lost without a district fix over summer.

I think the idea of a summer season off and one main is a good idea.

Very valid point 'what the' as the summer will stay if clubs nominate. On the other hand, if the clubs do not nominate in summer, the players full behind the rest of the competition so it is sort of a catch 22.

Maybe we could move the winter season so it finishes in December, then give the players a good 8 weeks off. Have a shorter summer season and then having an extra 4/6 round in the main season.

I know my kids hate the long break over summer.
Usually the long break is for the parents not the kids
Wouldnt BASA go broke without the income bball all year round generates ?

The clash with football always effects Juniors during the Winter months, especially at my club, my team, infact had 7 players also playing footy on Sundays!
