Funny Sixers Pre-Season begins this weekend

Saturday
6pm Adelaide 36ers vs Wollongong Hawks

Sunday
1pm Adelaide 36ers vs Hunter Pirates

(There's a further game against the Breakers after the weekend.)

Both of these games should be decent tests of the Adelaide roster. However, both opponents are only playing with one import.

How do you think they'll go?

The Hunter game will see Adelaide's size increase tested against Cullen, Melmeth and Hinder. I'd expect Adelaide to have a superior guard rotation though.

Wollongong will be lacking a real centre with the loss of Mueller. Rice is likely to suit in the middle with support from Rigby and Pilon.

Yes. Farley arrived in Adelaide on Monday and was in attendance for the singlet presentation on Wednesday night. I'm not sure if Nash will be playing or if his back is still a problem.

Hopefully the Breakers will be able to get stats up after the games.

Given the import issues or injury problems for other clubs, I think that Adelaide might have a good shot at getting a top start to the season. They open their campaign against the Breakers who they will have already played over the coming week at least once. They also have a fairly mobile squad with Cooper against a slower opponent like Pepper. If other teams are lacking a full roster, the Sixers may well have the option of keeping up the pace and forcing the opposition to tire and look to their bench.

Crocs 126, Perth 120.

Summary from a post on OzHoops: Grace not really a factor, Jaron Brown bit of an all-rounder but short, Crawford finished strongly, Majstrovich could be an impact player, Burston looked slow and was limping post-game. Cox did OK, Shanahan finished as best for Perth, Rush looked good.

For the Crocs, Quick was solid, Rillie did well, Rose was a bit flat and showed his age, Brown didn't look special, Calvary looked good (was compared to Brannen), Vanderjagt was quiet (bugger!), same with Tragardh (bugger!), Newley "looked the goods", Robertson MIA.

Spotted an article on the Fox Sports site saying that Kerle's comeback from injury has been impaired by a return of his calf injury.

Also, there's an article in today's Advertiser from Boti regarding Nash's injury. Nash will miss the first two games of the season and Smyth is expecting the Sixers to have a slow start to the regular season.

The squad for New Zealand is: Maher, Farley, Rychart, Holmes, Cooper, Rees, Forman, Ng, Williams, Gower.

Smyth said that he expects Maher and Farley to only play one of their 2-3 games in NZ.

That's not good.

Our start has been a pretty good barometer for our season over the last few years.

The last two seasons we've had poor starts and never recovered to finish high enough.

Oh well, surely we can't start any worse than last year.

Hawks beat Breakers 104-100. For Wollongong, Mee 27, Rigby 24. For New Zealand, Redhage 25 and Cameron 18.

Rigby had 6/6 3-pointers!

Crocs beat the Wildcats elsewhere. For the Crocs, Rillie had 23, Rose 17, Calvary 16, Quick 16 and Brown 15.
