Flames grab big wins over Lions

In the men's game, the Flames won 109-79. Todd Matthews bagged 20 while Keith Krause had 19 and 10. David Cooper was obviously feeling generous, taking only 7 points for himself, while dishing out 8 assists to go with his 20 rebounds in 34 minutes of action.

No one had more than 11 for the Lions, though five scored in double figures - Justin Clayton, Justin Wilkey, Paul Vandenbergh, Jared Hammond and Matthew Atkins.

In the women's, it was a 113-68 onslaught. Natalie Hurst had 25 points and 8 assists while Kellie Abrahms 19, Georgi Howlett 18 and Sally Mostert 14. Four Flames had 6 assists or more.

The two Lions to handle the bulk of their team's scoring were Jae Conn (22 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists) and Emily Wilkin with 20 points.

16 year old Emily Wilkin had 20 points with Natalie Hurst guarding her and she can't get a gig in an under 18 State team. I heard with one parent living in Kingston and the other living in Adelaide she can play for either Metro or Country. Do the State Coaches watch players in that age group playing ABA?

Kingman,

Just becasue it te sun shines today. That does not make it summer. If players want to make State teams they need to perform consistantly over trainings for the State team.

And the Centrals ABA team would struggle against some U/18 teams like North, West and Sturt.

Yes she had a good game and its encouraging to see young players playing well at that level. As for state i know Em is not interested in playing state she just enjoys playing ABA with the lions girls.

That's a pretty good effort from a 16 year old. Especially with Hurst guarding you.
Anonymous, do you know if this little lady is or isn't performing consistently?

It would be interesting to go back over the last five years and see who has been in any women's State teams from Centrals - in fact it would be interesting to look at where all state teams originated from.

#86588, what is your point? That Lions don't produce many state players? I know for sure of one of the centrals girls who made state a few years back and the likes of Charlea Taylor would have a chance next season.

Lions Supporter, do you know why it is that Emily isnt interested in playing State, surely that would be one of most if not all elite player's goals to represent your state?
