Womens ABL Re-cap and Predictions

Sturt Playing great basketball all season may be slipping a bit near the end but still should be favourites to win the grand final over West. As long as Monique Bowley is on this team they will be a threat. Prediction 1st

West Plagued by injuries throughout the season but have the bigs and smalls to be legitimate contenders. Cherie Smith for the finals? This team will be in the mix come the end of August Prediction 2nd

Southern All the talent needed, and with Beatty playing at her best (my pick for the Halls) they could play with the best in the league any given night I don't however think that they have the mental game to finish the season without a slight implosion Prediction 3rd

North Jo Hill has been the best thing to happen to North this season not by playing well but by giving teams a 'phillips like' focus that has allowed the other team members to step up and play some good ball. Not good enough to get too deep into August though Prediction 4th

Forestville for a team that has seen many grand finals of late it is a shame that the consistency has not been there for this group. Too many games with 7 or 8 players in the team has probably disrupted the flow and ability of the team. Losing Screeny was a huge loss for the Eagles and it is that loss that will hurt the finals chances the most. Prediction 5th

Norwood In true Norwood fashion they have yelled and complained the loudest and gotten away with the most. (Salary Cap restrictions don't apply to flying a player from interstate? That's a dangerous precedent Jenny Clarke). That being said Brendan has done a pretty good job with the girls he has on the team. The group is not quite strong enough the get it done however Prediction 6th

Eastern With no imports or really big name players (Cayla Francis doesn't count playing 2+ games) the Mavs have done an okay job. However unrest and Ego may have gotten the best of the Mav's women and hurt their chances to finish with a finals spot. That being said they are a legitimate 3 player from a truly competitive side Prediction 7th

South Say what you want about the loss of players the south women have underachieved this season, losses to Woodville and Central Districts have added to the Panthers Woes this season. Like the Mavs the panthers are 1 player from being truly competitive a double double post player would turn the team around Prediction 8th

Woodville Maybe the poorest recruiting effort in the league this season brought Vanessa Michael to the Warriors, The team as a whole is probably showing the best improvement by a team throughout the season with some close games with some good sides. Not quite enough sadly Prediction 9th

Centrals Say what you want about the Lions but 2 wins in a season for this team is an outstanding effort. The Addition of Jae Conn and Louise McClean has helped the Lions to some very good games (and wins). They are still 2 players from being the team the Lions want to watch however. Prediction 10th

What's wrong with you people? All I can say is Build a Bridge with the Norwood - flying a player in crap. You people don't seem to understand that having a quality player builds a stronger more competitive league. The fact that people whinge so much over this topic is flattering to the player that she is worthy of such a controvesial issue. Other clubs can do the same if they want. How the Club chooses to spend its money is their choice and should be no concern of others!

oliveoil,

Would be no problem is Norwood had paid all their bills to BASA.

Also would not have a problem with norwood if they hadn't made south play by the rules. Then when they were found out they had cry to the national body and had the decidion over turned. I'm sure if south had known that it may have been a different story for them. Good luck to them they got away with it.

I noticed this thread when it was sent and thought the order was a little off the mark!!!

maybe now after some latest results Some Guy would change his mind on the order of the ladder and seasons end.

woman and men, what are peoples thoughts:

I think it will finish like this:

Woman
West
Forestville
Sturt
Southern
North
Norwood

Men
Sturt
Forestville
Woodville
Mavs
North
Norwood

"Woodville Maybe the poorest recruiting effort in the league this season brought Vanessa Michael to the Warriors"

Brooke Sidebottom and Des Cummins were added too.

The Lady Warriors are playing very well, they are competitive each game and have pushed some top teams, where as in the past they have been 60 point walkovers against the top teams.

A good mixture of players, they lack a real go to player. Lyndall Kwiatowski playing the best season ever.

Expect to see Kayla Hardy a lot in years to come. Kayla and Sharna and Claire Christie when she returns from injury are juniors with a future.
