Jordan Page - number 6 is who you are thinking of. He had the Taipans asst coach out watching him (i was sitting near and overheard a conversation).

I didn't see the Men's gold medal game, but from the stats, looks like Alex Gynes (NSW Country) had a ripper game. He played well in the cross-over game and sunk an amazing shot (while fouled in the air) in the dying seconds to seal the game and a place in the gold medal game.

Gynes was just unstoppable off the pick and roll, resulting in WA changing into a zone. Gynes is very fast for his height and incredibly strong. Very left handed though.

Other impressive players were Natoli, Arnott, Duinker, Tomlinson, Illiadis and Ben White (ACT).

gliddon was good but was stopped by SA metro in the final game.. He appeared to be the star tof an average team. It would be interesting to see what he would be like in a good team with good players around him. Maybe he would be even better or maybe he wouldn't look as good

My vote would be for Cameron Gliddon. I don't think there was another player there who could do what he did with the WAC team. I know some others who think Illiadis from WAM was the best kid there, though I don't rate him quite so highly, despite him having a red-hot shooting week.

Others worthy of mention : Gynes, Cook (NSWC), Radcliffe (Tas), Ellis, Armour (WAM), Tomlinson, Duinker (NSWM), Carter (QLDS).

Jordan is like 5 foot and can throw it down he is crazy.

OMG no1 said Tiri Masunda, he run tassies team. Cam Witt and Radcliff set tassie to big inside.
Gynes did nothing in regular games, stepped it up in finals.
Armour is one of the best guards going round.
Cameron Gliddon had nothing else on his team to help him out.
Ben White is a joke. (his dad come up 2 me in U/14s and said he was the best defender in the country. then had 30 on his head).
Time martin was a big presence inside.
Illiadis played solid.

How can you say Ben white is a joke?He led the tournament in rebounds with 13 a game. He was also second in blocked shots and high up in points per game. Like Gliddon, he had nobody to help him out.

I agree Masunda was very good, gave SA a lot of trouble. Just not as classy as some of the other guards.

Ben White, was the only big in his team, other teams had 2 or even 3. look at tassie, in games 3 guys had 10+ rebounds. he was a 1 man show.
classy, u dont have to look good to get the job done. U just gotta get it done.
Who was u there watching Digby

Gynes was the best player for the tournament.

Played solid during the week.
Gynes had to cover for their injured number one player Taylor who is a 22pts and 12 board per game player.

Gynes stepped it up in the semi-final game Vs NSW metro with 40pts & 12 rebs and in the final had 26pts & 20rebs.

I agree he is a great player, Talor is good through the regular he has choked in previous finals though.
Gynes didn't do much against tassie though. 1 games dont make or break a player though. Jordan Page didn't get as much clock and recignition he deserves.

draining 40 & 20 doesnt make you the best player in todays games....sure its an awsome effort but who got him the rock to score that much. you guys are focused way to much on what looks good or scores most. there are plenty of players that should get a mention here. without them these other guys wouldnt have made 40 etc

Yes true. Thats were Masunda comes in.
He avgeraged like 16pts, 7 boards 5 ass and 6 steals a game.

lets say at least 3 other tasmanians...suter, witt, turner

yes see tasmania was a team. Gynes was mostly a one man team, and didnt go much in their bench.
And i would name Radcliff before Turner. From the bench in looked like Radcliff was turned 2 when things were not going great. He has 23 and 21 in the finals

Andrew stats dont show any hussle or nothing, player play great d and dont get recognised for it. Stats dont mean everything.
It also dont show how smart they played, shot selection and all the rest

Stats DO show shot selection, it is an integral part of the computer operator to click the right spot on the program to show where the shot was taken from. Yes, it is not exact by any means, but it does show to a fairly accurate degree.

Stats can provide a lot more than just a box score.

but they still dont cover all the one percenters....or how hard the player is working to get the ball...stats are great.....but there to distracting for players and not detailed enough

i dont mean like their position of shot, but like how long into the shot clock they hav shot. If u take a shot between 24 and 18 seconds into the shot clock its not gonna be a great shot, unless a lay up. between 17 and 10 seconds your gonna get better shots off, through offence. 10 and lower ur gonna get a rushed shot off. Good player are gonna take better shots, thats gonna show how much knowledge they have for the game

Hmmmm, word of advice Tassie guys - you were many people's favourite side here for the way you played - don't sour it by coming on here and a)talking yourselves up and b) bagging others - esp the winners including a guy who had 40 in the semi and 26 and 20 in the final.

You guys had an excellent tournament, played very disciplined basketball and did it with one of the youngest teams here - let your results do the talking for you.

Reply #88958 | Report this post

The Tassie team was their best team for decade's. Without question.

Tassie defeated NSWC as they were taken too lightly. The night before NSWC won an emotional game against VICC(they were expected to lose after the loss of Talor) and took Tassie too easily. Tassie wouldn't have beaten NSWC in the final. NSWC defeated all of the finals teams, Tassie didn't.

Who was the best player at the Nationals?
Alex Gynes by a New South Wales country mile.

how many more upsets do you want tassie to have before they impressed you? sure they didnt beat wam or nswm but whats to say if they did make the final they wouldnt have won it. im pretty sure they would have had most of the corowd support and that helps a hell of a lot. and wam only blew them away in the 1st quarter.
we didnt beat nswc because we were taken too lightly, we beat them because on that day we were the better team.
just like on friday and saturday nswm and wam were the better teams in beating tas

And yes i will let our place do the talking and Cable Guy Disco Biscuit's its been 20 years since tassie has come top 4.
CJ is so right, anyone can come out in the final and win. It just depends how the team goes on the night.

Reply #89037 | Report this post

Stop trying to argue with everyone, ALEX GYNES NOT A TASMANIAN WAS THE BEST PLAYER AT THE TOURNAMENT! They beat vic country the night before and im sure the result didnt really matter when they played tasmania. Have a little bit of respect for this website and do not come on here and talk yourselves up because you came 4th. You guys had a solid team. Great effort tassie boys u didnt have the talent to come 4th and you did so you played with heart and i comend that. And stop telling people he is an individual, u need a team to win games, well clearly he can play team ball cause his team has a gold medal and what does tasmania have......mmmmmm now would be a good time to shut up tas

PS. Could someone tell cameron witt he isnt a guard. Cause when it comes to mens basketball he is going to be in for a scare

yes, i do agree with you "what is taz talking about", its about time you quit tas. sure we played well and finished equal with tassies best result, but its about time you stopped baggin out the other teams and players. let the results speak for themselves. these other guys are right to say who in there opinion is the best player(s) at nationals. so quite baggin them out and come up with something more productive.
and "what is taz talking about", why do u say "PS. Could someone tell cameron witt he isnt a guard. Cause when it comes to mens basketball he is going to be in for a scare ", surely i dont remember him attempting to play guard over there.

Cameron Witt doesnt play the conventional style of basketball for his size and position. He is unorthadox in that you can't compare his style of play to any other players in his age group. He isnt as strong as goodall of gynes, doesnt have the instinctual play of white and ellis, doesnt have the polish of duinker or healy he is an inbetweener of all these skills. Because his isnt strong upper body his doesnt really have a go to back to the basket move or style that he plays and cause he doesnt read the play like white and ellis he doesnt get in good receiver spots and cheap offensive rebounds and because he doesnt have the polish of a duinker or healy he doesnt read his defence as well this is why he settles on the catch and shoot and the transition game as his primary weapons against these other players. Witt has alot of potential and if he goes to the tute he can find a style that is suited to his position and body more than what he plays like now. In concludion Witt doesnt play like a convential foward but has the body to!

Cameron Gliddon!!!! was a stand out. he did have support fron the WAC team they were not as bad as u say. there was more than one game that sore more than four of their players in double figures. he is a great all round player featurein in the scoring rebounding steals and assists. if there team was as bad as you say then cam must be an awsome player to get them within 8 points of NSWC by him self.
oh quinn from NSWC is an awsome player
yeah cammy!!

defenatly alex gynes he did awesome

another staand out is cameron Gliddon from WAC, how can you say that he played in a average team, WAC remember the games against NSWC WAC lost by 8pts to the gold medalist and cameron gliddon got fouled out with other big players out like Jason Smith and Jordan Hickert they might show up on the stats but they where a big influence mentally. With two people in double figures and one a bottom age. What about in the crossovers WAC had 4 players in double figures, one was top age and the rest where bottom age. WAC also had people stand out when cam was in a rough time, like Cameron Cranely and Jai Flemming.

All credit towards the coach of WAC i've never seen a team with so much belief in them selves, they may not of got the results they hope for but with seven first it looks promising for next year. under the same coach who shows alot of passion towards WAC and discipline. The founder of 60 suicides in 60minutes.

Go Alex Gynes

chris owens #7 from WAC was a great hassler even the stats dont show it he worked his assed off, showing a defensive threat to NSWC guards, and others, even though limited minutes he will be looking like a young promising player for next year. He was only standing at 175cm he had some boards showing his offensive knowledge

WE WON GOLD MEDAL!! YAY
