More in-depth Boomers news

Posted by RJD on the OzHoops forum, mentions Cattalini and Rogers:

Missed game 2 versus Croatia, but I saw game 1 versus Italy in Foligno, and the tournament in Roseto. I would write more, but internet is very expensive here.

- first 5 players started, and the rest are named n order of substitution into the game.
- minutes are accurate give or take a couple min.
- figures in brackets is the points margin when they were on court. Anyway, I dont know how much you can read into this stat. A lot of the time it has contradicted my impressions during the game.

g1 vs Italy in Foligno

Heal - 16 pts in 26m
Smith - 6 pts in 21m
Sav - 7 pts in 24
Nielsen - 9 in 28
Rogers - 4 in 12
Bogut - 9 in 22
Catt - 8 in 21
Rono - 0 in 10
Rillie - 5 in 22
Bruton - 0 in 12
Wheeler - 0 in 6
Andersen - 5 in 7

Wheeler - 8 in 14 (+10)
Castle - 2 in 8 (+5), .... , 6 in 17 (0).

Random thoughts (with not much time to think about it):

- Heal is in fine form.
- Rono was pinged for offensive foul after offensive foul, and several travelling violations, shot the ball poorly, yet the team always won the ponts differential when he as on court (at least in the Roseto tournament).. but I thought that was because our second lineup tended to play better together than our starters.
- Bogut looks like he definitely has the size. He was lost at times, but he should play a vital role come Athens. Rebounding machine. We are not targeting him, though. Feed it into him, I say.
- Andersen looks very confident and in very good form. He played limited minutes in the first couple games, but later started in the place of Rogers. So glad to see him play so well now that Anstey is out.
- Heal (Bruton in g5), Smith, Sav, Nielsen, and Rogers (Andersen in g4 and g5) started.
- Catt has always been a good impact off the bench (even when he has gone scoreless). I like what he has contributed.
- Our (sort of) "second lineup" with Bogut, Catt, Rillie, Bruton etc. played well, I thought. Not as many offensive droughts, and their D was surprisingly good. Got us back into several the game several times.
- Bruton started game 3 of the tournament (Heal rested), and ran the team well. In the first game in Foligno, he looked a bit lost.
- Nielsen has scored in bursts and with apparent ease when he gets in that mood.
- Rillie has been quiet offensively, putting up very few shots.
- Smiths shooting touch is back. He deserves his spot in the team, playing good D, and converting at a good clip.
- THe team has a habit of going on scoring droughts in the 4th. Goorj has gone with some strange lineups in the clutch. Mention more about that later (maybe).
- Castle had a good cameo in game 3 of the tournament, playing good D on Croatias star guard (this young guard, Ukic, I think his name is, is a gun and a half). Croatia have two excellent young guards. Look out for them (I think the other is called Rancic).
- France is a bunch of very athletic young black players, all look like NBA athletes (I didnt check if any were, but I can list their lineup later). They were embarrassed by us in game 1, before beating Italy and Croatia and (somehow) winning the tounrament (I thought we won on points differential, but anyway...).
- Croatia was led by their two young players I mentioned before. They are skinny, young, but fast, reasonable height for their position, and have awesome skills.
- Italy looks typically European - tall(ish) guards, and everyone can shoot (very well). Their bigs arent that big, though. Fucka wasnt there, so I dont know how far off full strength they are.

Might add more later... if I can afford it.
