Who is Jason Everstyn?

10 boards in 10 minutes for the Bullets....not on the fantasy league list?

7'3" kid that the Bullets are considering a long-term project.

24 years old, 216cm and 115kg. Holds the ABA record for rebounds in a game with 39.

Not sure if he's in the ten. Can't remember the rules on development players playing away games, etc.

Freeman, Brannen, Egan, Rucker, Black, Castle, Kerle, Hill, Darragh, Nasalo, Everstyn, Williamson, Shaw is the Bullets roster.

I think this year you can bring 12 on away games.

Brisbane may be the only team who can afford to do it!

Conquering the Bullets' bouncer
By Wayne Heming

OPPOSITION sides will have to find a way to conquer Brisbane Bullets man mountain Jason Eversteyn.

At 216cm, the human skyscraper pulled down 10 rebounds in just under 11 minutes in his national basketball league debut last week against the Hunter Pirates.

Not too long ago, Eversteyn, 24, was evicting troublemakers from bars as a bouncer in Melbourne.

Bullets coach Joey Wright has high hopes for the giant rookie, said to have a "secret" hook shot which may come out of the bag as his confidence grows.

But right now though the "R" word is his priority and in his first game he got a swag of rebounds to be up with the NBL's proven big name board bangers.

Cairns import Chris Burgess produced the best single game of the opening round with 15 rebounds in the Taipans narrow 99-96 loss to the Tigers on Saturday night.

The NBL's long time rebound king, Mark Bradtke, collected 10 boards against the Wollongong Hawks and 12 against the Taipans and on both occasions it took him 45 minutes.

Eversteyn - who once dragged down a staggering 39 rebounds in an ABA game - took just under 11 minutes to gather his 10 rebounds.

Some of those were what the NBL defines as "controlled touches or taps" but it was still an eye-catching debut by a player still wet behind the ears by anyone's standard.

Eversteyn still needs a lot of work.

But at a tad over seven-foot, he is definitely a presence in the paint.

"Jason was great," said Bullets general manager Jeff Van Groningen, also enormously impressed by the early form of American import Kevin Freeman.

Freeman, whose season was undermined by a thumb injury leading into the finals, opened the new season with a double-double of 29 points and 12 rebounds, indicating he's on track to challenge for the league's MVP.

"Kevin was unguardable at times," said Van Groningen.

Freeman has returned from an NBA camp with Detroit with a very good jump shot, making him even tougher offensively than last year, when he was rated alongside Sydney's Matt Nielsen as one of the most feared players in the NBL.

Brisbane, touted as title favourites in most polls prior to the season, came from 62-52 down at half time to beat Hunter 105-97.

While Freeman and Derek Rucker (24 points) led the offence, some great defensive pressure from guards Mick Hill and Ben Castle helped put the clamps on the Pirates and ignite Brisbane's second half scoring surge
