The Wade/LBJ/Amare group perhaps have the potential to go closer to the 92 Dream Team than any other era, but I'd be surprised if a team as good as the 92 Dream Team is ever assembled.

Perhaps there will be more grounds for comparison in 2010.

Bird was in pain most of the '92 campaign, his back was on fire and spent most of his time looking up from the hardwood.

However, I believe he scored the first basket in the Tournament of the Americans and the last basket of the Olympics. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Now i am the person that MC is talking about but he has got it wrong.
I sai to him that the current USA team that is going to the world champs this year is the closest that the Americans have come to being as good as the 1992 one. I did not say that the current crop were better at all.
Now i know that by posting this i will get some idiot posters giving me heaps but i dont care as i know what i said.

USA will not be beaten at the World Championships this year.

If you wanna see some action of the 1992 Dream Team then it might be worth while looking on youtube or going to ebay and having a look.

what annoys me the most is that every mens basketball team putforward is labelled hte dream team. Commentators at the olympics constantly called them that. The dream team was originally in reference to that individual team of the 92 olympics and was meant for none other. no one can compare to them in terms of outright class and ability.

the current usa team is young and has potential but as someone said in an above post, 90% of the Dream team were playing in their prime, in a time when Basketball was at its peak around the world.

LBJ/Wade/Amare are all great players but have a long career ahead of them and still ahve a lot to prove.

The 1996 Olympic team had to be better than the 1994 World Champs team surely!

The 1992 Dream team, IMO, is the only team ever that should be called a "Dream Team" in any sense of the term. With the exception of Laettner, every player in that line-up will end up in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Any person who thinks any other team could match up with that much quality and talent is dreaming. Even the coaching staff were legends, and one of the assistants is the Head Coach for this year's team, and that says something... THEY WERE A CLASS ACT!
