Goldcoast bid

GOLD Coast now looks virtually certain of fielding an NBL team in the 2006-07 Philips Championship bringing the league to 13 franchises.

A meeting of the NBL Board at Coffs Harbor today confirmed a Gold Coast bid for a license, fronted by one-time Adelaide 36ers coach David Claxton on behalf of two major financial backers, was likely to be approved in November.

The NBL will be launching a re-branding initiative which will involve renaming the competition to reflect the repositioning of the competition as an Asian league.

and also

The Singapore Slingers will be the first of many Asian based teams to be launched in the coming three seasons with franchise licenses for teams from Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Manila and Taipei currently being appointed."
