Assist are the problem

Look at the assist stats from our games, the games we win we have higher assists the games we lose we have way less assists than the opposition in general.

Our offence is not geared to create easy shots. No easy shots = shooting under pressure or off the dribble jump shots which = low fg%.

we need to see the free flowing drive and dish ball that the sixers are capable of.

The problem is the fact that we do not have a pure point guard.

When Brett isnt on floor we lose all direction.

Should have recruited a pure backup point guard, a Caporn, Crosswell, Shanahan sort of player.

Brett could then get a rest without everything turning to shit and he could also get swung to the 2 guard spot.

Sorry KB. Assists are just one of the problems. Shot selection is probably more so.. Hell I reckon anyone could make 15 points if he jacked up 19 shots. I don't believe much credit is due to top scorers when their percentage is way down, but I guess that's the way it's seen. If we are not getting the OR's then every missed shot should be called a turnover. This used to be a game for big blokes, then they brought in the 3pt shot which opened the game up to smaller people. Now the 3pt. shot dominates a lot of the game and too many teams, 36ers. included, rely on it to win. Even centres are jacking up threes. Easier than fighting inside I suppose. We could have won the game against the Kings if we had driven to the basket more. It's not rocket science...You generally either score the points and/or draw the foul. And when did boxing out become so unpopular?? The game sure has changed since I played.

Only three out of the 10 Sixers players are shooting over 40% from the field. They are all post players (Horvath, Cooper & Wheeler.) The rest are all shooting in the 30's. Farley, Copeland & Nash are shooting below 35%.

These are horrible stats.

lack of offense ideas and penetration killed us last night, shot selection was average, our percentage from would be unlikely to be over 30% in the first half..on the other hand, we would normally pick up half of those shots from last night..so..maybe it was an off night. although the cats D was impressive...another thing...i do expect to see the bodies put on line, there were a couple of 50/50 balls last night..that the 36ers players did not appear to commit to entirely.

this one gets the "bleeding obvious" award

Assist to turnover ratio is what has killed us this year. Normally we commit minimal turnovers.

Kwest, are you guys dead already? the season has only just begun, I think if Phil play both Horvath and Wheeler at least 30 out of the 48 minutes a game then fortunes for the sixers will change. Yea i know Wheels has to get into game shape but the only way to do that is to play him into shape. If everyone on the sixers has the green light then sit those who don't take it! (NASH) You guys need aggressive players on the floor at all times or you might as well be playing 4 against 5! How would Brad Sullivan go as a back up point? I dont know why Copeland was signed? what was the logic in that? Hill Maher Farley and Copeland are all 2 guards! Are there not enough big bodies for the sixers to set down screens for Brett and Willie? Do that then pump the thing inside to Horvath and watch him score 30+ a night. In 48 minutes there is enough time for all 3 of those guys to score heavily. What do you Sixer fans think?

Too many nice-guys, not enough firey types (e.g., Cattalini)?

We've missed out on quite a few very good players over the years because they didnt fit the 'nice guy' mould that the coaching staff likes.

I think its definately time to evaluate the benefit of that sort of thinking.

#98761, you made a very very good point that I have suprisingly never heard before - Brad Sullivan as a back up PG. He's the best point in the ABL (save Todd Mathews) IMO and deserves a shot. Only prob not much older than 23 too..
