Local Players???

One of the complaints laid against is that he hasn't developed SA players or SA players have gone top other clubs. There is no doubt we would like to see local players playing for the 36ers but my question is what team in the NBL does have predominantly local players?

Adelaide: 4 SA born players, all of which made their debuts for the 36ers.

Brisbane: 2 Qld born players, 1 of which has been at only the Bullets.

Cairns: 1 Qld born player who has scored 3 pts total in his career.

Melbourne: 6 Victorian born players, 2 of which have been with the Tigers their whole career.

New Zealand: ONE kiwi.

Perth: 1 player born in WA and he started his career with the Hawks.

Singapore: 2 players born in Singapore.

South: 4 Victorian born players of wich only 2 made their debuts for a melbourne based club.

Sydney: 3 NSW born players, 1 of which isn't even on their travelling squad.

Townsville: 3 Qld born players.

West Sydney: 2 NSw born players.

Wollongong: 1 player born in NSW.

So the answer is, no team (with the exception of this years Tigers team) in the NBL is made of local talent.

Just because that's the way it currently is doesn't make it right. SA has always punched above it's weight and it is the inclusion of homegrown talent which has made this possible. Having locals extends further than just the player......everybody who has had an affiliation with that player as a junior feels a 'part of it' which equates to more bums on seats.

with perth, you have forgotten Justin Brown.

with NZ, you have listed one kiwi. vukona, olson, henare, charleton. two were born in canada, but are NZers. one in Fiji but played for the Tall Blacks.

the complaint is that we have zero reputation for looking after young talent that has caused us to lose or miss key players. pulling out stats that count brett wheeler is a little irrelevant.

I went by the listings on the nbl website.

Just because they played for NZ doesn't mean that NZ basketball developed them, otherwise we could include so many nauturalised Americans.

SA traditionally has punched above it's weight but that is a thing of the past. How many SA players were on the Boomers roster? Yes we had players in the squad but how many made the roster?

If the complaint is that we have zero reputation for looking after young talent that has caused us to lose or miss key players, what NBL side does?

If you were to look at the previous NBL Championship winners, how many of the players on those rosters actually were developed by those teams?

Name the players Sydney developed?

Their players either came from other NBL rosters, from players who had played in the college system OS or from players who had been in previous Brian coached teams.

And up until now Newley's team has not won anything.

Would they have been in the Boomers squad if Brian wasn't coaching?

I think you would make your point better if you pointed out that a leading State League player like Zorich had to go interstate to get an opportunity to be on an NBL bench before Adelaide.
