Sixers vs Crocs Game Chat

Ok so here we go, bring on the Crocs a good chance to put on a decent showing against what I feel is a top 6 side come seasons end.

As some early post suggest I too think we are a good shot at getting this one.

As per usual ABC will be doing their live streaming online ABC Radio

Townsivlles 4TOFM will also be covering the game so you can tune in for a different perspective here

NBL Live Scoreboard

And lastly the Channel 9/ninemsn basketball scoreboard, since we all love the Channel 9 now :-)

Farley: Back to his old self, was on fire. He hit many jump shots on his oppenent and i think we may have seen a farley of old. 31 points.

Sutton: Great defence, even better passing. Got loads of time but played very well. Never really got into a shooting position but did get a score. Good on him!

Hill: Wow, hardly played.

Horvath: Great footwork down low, was hitting his foul shots well but did miss a few shots in the key. Got some awesome rejections!

Wheeler: Played okay, got some good rebounds and put up some nice shots down low.

Ng: Hit many three's like expected and shined.

Maestro: Played a quiet game, hit a nice three early on and got some good offencive rebounds.

Nash: Got in foul trouble so he couldn't spend much time on court.

Cooper: Played a good defensive game and got a nice tip in dunk in the second half.

Copeland: Too old? Missing too many shots? Not NBL standard?

4 three pointers, 3 of 3 foul shots made and 7 jumpers made. 21 points. He went nuts! Welldone to him on an awesome game. Played like Copeland of old. Some great defence aswell including a huge block.

Sixers were on FIRE!!! Hitting jumpers, sharing the ball around. They out rebounded the Crocs, the defence was alot better with 8 blocks and 5 steals. Sixers had a better shooting percentage and always looked like winners.

SIXERS OF OLD!!!

Not OLD SIXERS

It was good just to see the Sixers do the little things, like hustle on D, communicate and encourage everyone even if they missed a shot. Players were doing the team thing, making a cut knowing that they wouldn't get the ball which meant things would open up for the passer or receiver. Offensively, spacing was good, passing was crisp and unselfish and people were confident when shooting. Everyone was crashing the boards at both ends which made a difference.

Farley finally impressed me with his defence, Lanard worked hard but still just needed to settle after hitting a few J's, you don't need to to shoot it after one pass with two guys in your face - Rille blocked his next 4 shot attempts - overall, was much better than previous games.

Lastly, I've never seen Sutton play before, but have heard big wraps on him, and boy did he blow me away with his composure, ball handling, passing and awesome defensive hustle. Gardiner and Robertson did NOTHING when he was guarding them! I couldn't believe how many times he put the ball in players hands in great positions and didn't make them break stride etc even with full court D - in his FIRST ever NBL game. Phil - I hope to see a lot more minutes from my new favorite player this season!!!

Go Sixers - let's hope we can get a win against the Tigers on the road!

for those who watched the game, was Farley back to his old self?? as that is one of his best all round stat lines ive seen as he scored 31 and also got like 7 assists, and what did evryone think of Brad Hill's lack of minutes???, maybe they are better off with a shorter rotation, and Hill is going to be the odd man out??, i still would love to see him get atleast 15-20 mins a game though, as i think he is a great player and love watching him!

very very impressed with Sutton, such great composure out there for a first gamer.

you'd hate to be Hill, I'd be packing my bags now.

does anyone else think that Nash's early foul trouble helped us?

Copeland of old was great to watch, still jacked up too many shots with seconds of off shot clock IMO

Smyth (ok you know he's not my favourite) found ways to hamper the team at times with some of his sub but all worked out in well in the wash.

Farley played some good defence, OMG he even got a steal. But the again in the last five minutes on at least two occassions the player he was guarding had moved and Willie wasn't even aware that he was guarding empty floorboards. I'm probably harsh but I still expect better from him.

Ng, good all round game.

Horvath now there is a lot to like about this player. The more I see of him the more I like his game.

AJ IMO could have seen more minutes it will be interesting with Brett back who misses out the most.

Wheeler was strong and effective all night.

There was desire there tonight, there was commitment and team work. The passes were making it to open players, lots of talk and lots of backing each other up.

One down point for me is the court announcer we are not children the constant noise, and defense chants are damn annoying sometimes things should be spontanous.

Lost count of how many were shouting shut up to your defence defence defence.

Maybe we won cause the music wasn't so loud ;)

anon, wow, look at all those people jump back on the bandwagon - last time I checked only a few people got off, everyone was staying on and pointing out the things that blind freddy could even see.

Tonight(and obviously through the week), blind Freddy watched some game tape and decided to go back and do the little things which win ball games. Passionate fans have every right to constructively critisize a team they support and follow, especially season ticket holders. Even the music man listened to what people (and Boti) had said.

The crowd gave the Sixers a standing ovation to appreciate 4 quarters of D and team play - the two main points of people's beefs. Just because we won, I'm still not a fan of Copeland - can't wait to have Brett take his minutes when he's back healthy.

not a bad crowd really!

farley was him old self as was copeland which i am releived to say. sutton is dev a true point gaurd out of anyone tonight he really impressed me as he really took control of the game. i hate to say it but i prefer him to Hill because he doesnt need to score to do a good job. he just needs to take control of the game and hustle on defence which is exactly what he did tonight.

Nash on the boards and in defence was great tonight. again doesnt need to score to be effective.

wheeler had a quiet one but still ripped in 9 boards which is good.

hill did well in the time he was given except for that last play in the half where he fouled the guy at the 3.

mastro had a good game with 10 points 9 rebounds. all in 19 mintues which is excellent

NG was on firer and did excellent tongiht with like 17 points and 5 rebourns

Horvath did what we expected and did 20 10 ish. well around the mark. hes always very consistent

Tonights game was the first that ive been to this season but i have seen one on fox, but i was very impressed with the sixers D and not taking the first scoring option every offense. I believe Farley is back to his old self and will start playing more like that, it looked like the bys actually knew how to use the big guys down low when they were dominating the paint. LC played a great game i thought and his block on Newley was massive.

Hill didnt seem to do much in his 8 minutes but still would like to see him get more time.

GREAT GAME BY SUTTON, HE WILL BE A POINT GUARD FOR YEARS TO COME WITH ADELAIDE HOPEFULLY.

Great win tonight by the guys.

After giving critical analysis to Phil's methods for the last four weeks after hard losses, I don't want to go into hiding now he has won. Already after turning the computer on long-time fans that have gone thru thick and thin have to come back and read nonsense like this:

"Heres hoping we can get on a roll and play well for the rest of the season and the fans can get back to supporting the team!!"

"its amazing after 1 win everyone jumps back to loving the team and theres no criticism..real supporters ride through bad times without trying to fire the coach and half the team"

Firstly I want to say how great it was to see some defence played out there tonight. We actually had hands to shooters for once, and controlled the boards and ran from it. Farley didn't just stand watching after someone gets onto his hip for the first time since 2004. Sutton, who I believed could have been used in both the Brisbane and Sydney losses to navigate the full court press, showed his value tonight, not turning the ball over once in 24 minutes of game-time. It's small stuff with youth, like the tap of the ball from behind while Newley is on a break which makes young players great to watch. Good to see Copeland hit some shots as well.

Now I would love Adelaide to get Maher back, and go one to make a run towards the lower half of the finals, and hopefully get to past the first round for once. Would love every minute of it. But let's not have one win get people carried away. This roster is still not a roster that can win a championship. Also this is still a roster only meant to last for one season as a stop-gap measure. Then what? We try to bring in top line talent while players don't want to play for Phil. We try to develop youth while Brad Hill is packing his bags with the same complaints as others before him. One win doesn't give anyway the right to tell others to shut up because they want to blindly ignore the fact that Phil isn't the right coach for this club anymore.

It is for the above reasons that I am supporting the club, as I can't stand to sit and be quiet while a once mighty club becomes a pale shade of its former self in a half empty stadium.

As for tonight, I was really disappointed with Trevor Gleeson. Adelaide plays the pick and roll how you expect under 14s to play it. The guard goes under the screen and the big doesn't show, leaving a wide-open shot. Gleeson didn't change his offence to run looks like this for Rillie, Newley etc at all. All we got was some tired Flex cuts totally playing into Adelaide's hands. Meanwhile it didn't occur to Gleeson to trap until the final quarter when Townsville was 25 points down. Credit to Phil at least we had Sutton a true point guard out there tonight to handle it but did he really need 4 weeks and 5 loses to figure this out when everyone knew heading into the Sydney game what was coming. Really have to question Gleeson's preparation based on this performance, this coming from a former NBA scout as well.

As for Copeland as well, of course he will give you glimpses like this every now and then, and it's good to see. But he won't be able to reproduce this every night at his age, and what is the point of playing him for such extended minutes eating up the minutes of the club's future prospect. Plus he still was jacking up ridiculous shots taking others out of the offensive rhythm. Our guards hardly play defence as it is, sure they are pumped to play more when they go up and down the court 4 straight times without anyone else touching the ball. The guy means well and tries hard but you can't justify his signing over Ingles tonight.

I know people are going to be angry over the negativity in the post, but rest assured I loved every minute of the game tonight, especially being locked up in the house all week with a virus. But it really irks me to see people acting smugly after one win on here calling anyone who likes to point out the obvious about the club they have loved so much for as long as they can walk "ignorant", "not real fans", "band wagoners" etc.

DC - not saying I disagree with you - but surely the same could be said for the "fans" who were calling for Phil to be sacked / step down after the first loss?

One swallow does not make a summer, whether that be a couple of losses (and some have been VERY bad), but neither does a win...let's see how the season pans out. The only true way to judge a season is how we finish up at the end...but then I have said that before and been accused of having my head in the clouds.....

Yogee, how many times do people have to explain to you that they are judging Phil on his 2003 to 2006 results and not just on one game? The first home loss to Sydney was a chance to illustrate some clear points that is all.
