Boti: 36ers to miss the eight, Smyth disagrees
Looks like Boti Nagy has made his mind up enough to open his Breakers match report with the following statement:
ADELAIDE's record of never missing an NBL play-off series during Phil Smyth's 10-year coaching tenure will end with this Philips Championship regular season. And when you read the next paragraph, you can't help but think he might be right:
If they cannot beat the Breakers on the road, what hope have they away to Cairns, Townsville and Sydney? He also takes strong swipes at David Cooper and Mark Nash ("embarrassing offensively").
Article: Happy days over
Coach Phil Smyth disagrees, but acknowledges that a strong position going into the finals is out of the question.
"We can't make the four," Smyth conceded. "It seems like that's done." ReferenceFor a more positive spin, try Sixers in hunt:
DESPITE Wednesday's road loss to New Zealand, Adelaide is still in the hunt for an NBL final eight berth according to 36ers coach Phil Smyth.Smyth says that result came down to a missed shot by Brett Maher.
"Mahersy makes that one - and normally he would - and it's a different ball game," Smyth said. The question remains though, they're on the road in Cairns (beat the Bullets, then lost in Brisbane this round), Townsville (didn't play this round but soundly beat the Hawks up north) and Sydney (won in NZ and have just held the Cats to just 67 points) next -- are they a chance?
I was at the Lightning vs Capitals game last night courtesy of Vince Marino and Mike Daws (thanks guys) and the 36ers need to get themselves out to see that team play. One of their stars (Rasmussen) went down injured and they hustled, played as a team, and were superb from that point on. Even during the first when shots weren't falling and they were down by double figures, they were still giving it everything.
Oh, and 900 Lightning fans manage to make a good amount of noise too.
