All Time Lightning Team

Who does people think would be the all time starting five for the Lightning.

It has been done to death for sixers but not lightning.

Here are my thoughts plus 7 bench players.

R Sporn
C Boyd
J Hill
E Phillips
J Screen

L Summerton
V Daldy
M Brogan
S Woosnam
Kay Lee Janette
N Lindsay
M Moffa

It's a hard task choosing the all time best 5. I think you've put together a pretty good team there.

My only change is:
Kingi (Cross) in for Lindsay

you'd have to be dreaming to have Kay Lee Jeannette in there.

My Bad - How could I forget Jae Kingi. I would have her as the starting guard along side Erin.

Bring Screen off the bench and drop Kay Lee.

What about Kristy Harrower?

When naming an all time team, would you really include a player who only played for 1 season (Harrower)?

Not denying she is a great player, but she doesnt make any of the stats records.

For mine, I think Julie Nykiel needs to be found a spot there too!

Yogee, Harrower has proven to be one of the best Point Guards this country has produced and yes I agree her time in Adelaide was unfortunately too short.

But you defeat your own arguement when suggesting Nykiel does, a player who never played a single game for the club.

Great South Australian basketballer (of which there was many during her time) but IMO the fact she didn't play a single game for the Lightning would suggest she doesnt belong in any "All Time LIGHTNING Team".

I'd aso suggest one time Lightning Captain Trina Roberts may deserve a spot though.

Well, in my defence, I guess I thought of it more as an all time team, which would have included the precurors to the actual Lightning formation. I based this on the fact all the records include that time beforehand, and is recognised as part of WNBL history.

I'd have to agree with Trina too...Adelaide sure have been blessed with some talent over the time.

I would personally like to add Deanna Smith, but once again, I dont know if 3 years is even enough...

IMO Summerton never showed her full potential in her time in Adelaide.

I would definately rate Sporn, Boyd, Brogan and Roberts ahead of her based on their time with the Lightning program.

Would also have Kingi in my starting five too. It's amazing how quickly people forget just how good past players were.

I think it's important to note that the Lightning's four championships came in 94, 95, 96 and 98. It was during this time that players like Sporn etc were in the line up.

As good as Screen, Summerton and Phillips (her best is definately yet to come) are none of these players have been part of Lightning championship teams.

Yogee, Deanna Smith struggled to find a starting spot on the Lightning side. Hardly worthwhile of a spot in an all-time line up IMO. Her efforts locally of course have been fantastic but again this is an arguement about the best All Time LIGHTNING players. I don't think as a Lightning player she deserves a look in on a list like this.

Clark...I thought I was the only one who though Summerton was over rated in Adelaide.

Yes, she plays well, and the fact she has made the Opals and done well in WNBA does show she is a great player, but I just dont think she showed in consistently here.

I offered up Doc based on efforts, while not neccesarily showing in stats, I think she played a big part in some fantastic wins.

But this is the whole thing about when you start naming "all time" teams...everyone will have a player they think should be included, because we all have different opinions :)

Here is an interesting fact.

Laura Sumerton is the only player other than Rachel Sporn in the top 7 of points per game average for a year (in 2005).

Rachel owns the other 6.

I also agree Summerton has not reached her potential but still fit her in on the bench for all time.

Doc is an outstanding contributor and was unlucky not to make my team due to the fact her best basketball came outside Adelaide. (Europe and Perth)

IMO the starting 5 is easy

Sporn
Boyd
Hill
Phillips
Kingi
