Bio: A 1994 graduate of Vanderbilt, McCaffrey played for van Breda Kolff his senior season there. After graduating from Vanderbilt, McCaffrey played professionally for five years, making stops in Italy, Germany and Australia. At Vanderbilt, McCaffrey was a two-time All-American. As a junior in 1992-93, the 6-foot-2 point guard scored a school record 699 points, an average of 20.6 points per game, and was named SEC Co-Player of the Year along with Kentucky’s Jamal Mashburn. He led the Commodores to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, a record of 28-6 and the SEC championship. His senior season, McCaffrey again averaged 20.6 points per game over 32 contests and was a repeat selection to the All-SEC first team, leading Vanderbilt to a 20-12 mark and a runner-up NIT finish. Over just two seasons at Vanderbilt, he totalled 1,359 points and 257 assists in 66 games. McCaffrey ranks 13th on Vanderbilt’s career scoring list and he holds school records for career free throw percentage (.880), single-season free throws (168) and single-game assists (14 vs. Kentucky 1/13/93). He also ranks second all-time at Vanderbilt in points per game (20.6) and three-point field goal percentage (.446). McCaffrey began his college playing career at Duke in 1989-90. He played two seasons there before transferring to Vanderbilt. McCaffrey was Duke’s second-leading scorer during its 1991 national championship season and also was member of Duke’s 1990 NCAA runner-up team. He scored 16 points in Duke’s 1991 NCAA title game victory over Kansas and was named to the All-Final Four team. In 76 career games at Duke, 21 of which he started, McCaffrey scored 691 points, an average of 9.1 points per game. McCaffrey is a 1989 graduate of Central Catholic High School in his native Allentown, Pa. His older brother Ed is an All-Pro wide receiver for the NFL’s Denver Broncos.
