NBL to merge with BA

Just got a press release from Basketball Australia talking about a 'major structural review of basketball in Australia'. Eddy Groves is representing the NBL in the statement.

Looks like BA, the NBL and so on will all merge into a single entity in a "drive for unity". Heard about this the other week, so it's no surprise.

"This a tremendous opportunity for the entire basketball family to embrace an exciting new era for our sport and the NBL owners have voted unanimously to participate in the reform process," Mr Groves said.

What ever happened to their masterful 'one basketball' plan or is this an extension/revision of that.

Sounds all too faimliar, in a bid to talk up some hype/strength of basketball in Australia and more importantly secure some sponsorship dollars especially in the case of the NBL?

It has been on the cards for a while. Lets hope egos stay out and they can do some serious marketing so that we regain some of the hype from the 80's.

The CEO of Basketball Australia is Scott Derwin while the head of the WNBL is Lorraine Landon.

As an entity, the WNBL (and ABA) have already been merged with BA.

So at the end of the day, the CEO has the call on all 3.
