Rillie is NBL Player of the Week

Townsville Crocodiles guard John Rillie has been named the National Basketball League's (NBL) Player of the Week for Round 21 after helping the Crocs upset the league-leading South Dragons.

Rillie dominated the visiting Dragons, scoring 28 points and pulling down seven rebounds. 'JR' had 18 points in the second period alone and sealed the win with two successful foul shots in the final seconds.

His efforts helped the Crocodiles improve their overall record to 17-12 with a 101-98 slaying of the Dragons at the Townsville Entertainment Centre on Friday night. The victory marks the fourth straight win for the Crocodiles.
Gold Coast Blaze forward Luke Whitehead was also a leading contender for Player of the Week in Round 21. Whitehead scored 20 points and grabbed 24 rebounds to boost his team to an upset 93-88 victory over the Taipans.

Other contenders for the Player of the Week included Donta Smith (South), Shawn Redhage (Perth), Chris Anstey (Melbourne), Oscar Forman (New Zealand), Adam Ballinger (Adelaide), Dusty Rychart (Wollongong), Martin Cattalini (Cairns), Matthew Knight (Sydney), Mark Worthington (South), Brett Maher (Adelaide), Corey Williams (Townsville), Joe Ingles (South) and Phill Jones (New Zealand).

After starting very slowly, Rillie has finished the season very stongly.

And in terms of this seasons results between the Crocs and the Dragons, i am sure the Crocs are the very last team the Dragons want to meet in the finals.

Will he award himself the Player of the Week award that the OT have been sponsoring all thanks to Hot FM here in Townsville???

A CD has been sent out to every player of the week this year... better than nothing!!!

Thought Luke Whitehead would've won it for sure!
Blaze fans and Whitehead himself must be pretty annoyed!

24 rebounds in any league is amazing.

Whitehead should have won it, but as always the POTW award is often a popularity contest, and whichever team's front office petitions the strongest.

We did our podcast last night and I asked JR if he thought he would get it and even HE said Luke Whitehead should get it. 24 rebounds - HELLO!

Against Cairns though. No idea why they weren't favourites in that game.

Crocs over Dragons is a much tougher result. I got Townsville at $2.40 or so.
