Holmes and Herbert injuries

The 36ers were in control of the game in the first half until losing league leading rebounder Jacob Holmes to a foot injury. The Sixers suffered another loss when Nathan Herbert left the game for hospital after being accidentally poked in the eye by Perth guard Damian Martin.

Holmes will have scans today to detail the injury to the sole of his foot while Herbert will see another Ophthalmological specialist today to confirm the extent of his injury. He was discharged from hospital with a scratched cornea and suspected bleeding inside his eyeball.

That is very unlucky. Herbert was starting to have good consistency whilst Holmes was having a great game!

Arguably these injuries wre the beginning of the end for the 6ers last night...hope both are OK and back up and going sooner rather than later.

Herbie seems to have grown in the last few games. His impact was evident and when he was off you saw we lacked the hustle needed.

Someone else posted something about boards, well Jake is the leading rebounded in the league. He was certainly missed last night in the second half.

Hope both fellas get better soon and the injuries are not too serious.

Yeah, big losses for us last night. Hope they both can get back soon, because we're a pretty soft team without them. Unfortunately Holmes foot injury is likely to take weeks!

Seriously suspected bleeding inside of his eye..freaking ouch, the reply looked like a minor touch I was surprised not to see him back out there. Jack your 100% right about Herbert, hes deffinetely stood up and made his game noticed. Good to see someone getting minutes thats earnt them.

i like the term 'accidently' Isaac with Nathan Herberts injury. Bet if it was the other way round, it would have been push and shove. Martins actions werent accidental. However the injury to Holmes does worry me.

he did not try and get him in the eye though, it was a hard foul that was misdirected.

oh crap thats all we need, the 2 guys who actually hustle play tough defence an have heart are out, we could be in trouble. I got faith in Ng to stand up but i dunno bout the others, still with this extra playing time Tez or Hill need to stand the f*ck up

Martin rang Herbert personally to apologise after the incident.

That's the sort of sportsmanship you expect in the NBL.

I would suggest 99.9% of NBL players have respect for one another, can only think of one cane toad who would probably not

Lol Jack Toft, he would probably call up to rub it in and talk about his 100% eye-gouging percentage.

Don't think there was any Malice in it.

Is 4wks too short to grab a local replacement as well as Garlepp? Yeah probably I guess.

Bad losses.

"Martin rang Herbert personally to apologise after the incident. "

Its a pity we dont hear about that on the news, might highlight to parents that Basketball still has sportsmanship other sports are highly lacking.

I am thinking someone needs to give Damien Ryan a call to see what he is doing. We can't afford to keep losing games while we wait for Herbert and Holmes and they may not be 100% for the remainder of the season either.

I'd guess we are in troubles without a SF.

Something like:

Burston(30), Cooper(10)
Ballinger(35), Garlepp(5)
Hill(30), Ng(10)
Ng(15), Groves(20), Gilchrist(5)
Gilchrist(30), Groves(10)

Give Coop Garlepp's minutes if he doesn't perform.

Others have said it before and I agree...why are the Sixers so hell bent on limiting their options to "home grown" talent, when it is plain to see that some of the names being thrown around on this site are not really NBL players.

Some are good ABL, but they are a far cry from being what is needed at the NBL level. Why not look interstate? Why not look beyond recycled imports? Why not look beyond ex Sixer players to coach?

What a time for Jacob to become injured with his wedding coming up in less than a week. I wonder how he managed his bucks night limping on crutches.

Quote from Boti that keep all on here interested.

"It was a busy Christmas for the 36ers as they devised a contingency plan which includes activating Tom Garlepp and, most likely, crowd favourite Erik Burdon.

The Sixers had looked at talented guard Damian Ryan - back from Europe and training with Melbourne - but could not accommodate him within the NBL's points system.

Committed to making the playoffs, club management also has looked at interim player options such as Luke Martin and Daniel Joyce."

Ryan has been queroied on here, Burdon I like, and I am sure that a lot of Hoops people will be happy that the name Daniel Joyce has come up...

I have never booed a player on my team in any sport but if we get SOJ...

I love Ezy but really we're pretty well covered at PG/SG. A cheap SF like Clint Reed would be good if we're looking interstate. Rillie would be handy right now.

Thought you might like him here X..

Burdon would do the same as Rillie, but younger.

And Holmes is only meant to miss one game, so he can play the 3.

We mostly saw Burdon come on for the last 1 or 2 minutes and swish 1 or 2 threes. Would have been good/will be good to see him for a bit longer.
I'd guess what we really need is a big turn around in form from Hill (who is playing with injury) and Groves, who battled hard in the last 2 games, and possibly in Woolongong could play OK.
Woolongong will be without Ty Mckee, which is a big help for us.
