Purely pointless comparison

With all of the talk of quality of imports and who should be signed and sacked, I thought back to the glory days and the back to back years, here is a 'squad off' with the 98 team:

Maher DeVries
Mee Winder
Brooks Carter
Cat Balls
Davis Holmes
Rillie Ng
Rees Johnson
Sapwell Dowdell
Ninnis Hill
Brogan Creek

I don't think todays team would win one of those matchups, with the exception of Creek who I haven't seen play. Like I said, totally pointless.

Not totally pointless this is my estimate of that team points wise

Maher 10
Mee 10
Brooks 10
Cat 9
Davis 7
Rillie 7
Rees 6
Sapwell 6
Ninnis 6
Brogan 5

76 points and I think I have been conservative on the non 10 point players

Brogan porbably would have been lower being a 1st year rookie.

I think Maher was only a 5 because he was a hometown boy.

Davis would have been less for 50 years of service to the one club

Team be creamed by the '98 boys. Further into the bench rees sapwell ninnis - they would be starters in the motley gcrew of '10.
My how we have slipped.

No question, that 98 team was a beauty filled with veterans, and this team is full of kids still finding their way.

Along with the Tigers the year before using Timmons at the 4, those Sixers revolutionised the way the game is played in the NBL, using quick, mobile and skilful players at the 4-spot to spread the defence and expose slower PFs.

That style is very much still in vogue in the NBL and has spread around the world a bit too.

BTW - I dont think Catt would be a 9, when he signed his deal with the Sixers he was just a bench player and then blossomed.

Maher was a five because he was a lifer with the Sixers. Gaze would have only been a 5 for the same reason, so would a Vlahov.

Had Maher been a team hopper, then he would have easily been a 10.

One more comparison to add:

Crowds

1998 - no facts but can recall sellouts

2010 - luck to get 4.5k

Strong link between quality of product vs number of customers?

No such reductions these days though. Cat was in the Australian team from memory at this time so could even be a ten.
