The trailblazers already have an offer of over 1 mil on the table for him. So even if Adelaide had more than that, which they can't cos of the NBL salary cap, Portland could still match it.

rangamitch, the trailblazers can't offer Patty anything as there is a lockout. They can't even talk to him. I am not saying we are going to get Patty, but I am pretty sure Patty will be one of the players looking to play through the lockout. The reason the NBL might be an option for Patty is most NBL teams would give him an out clause if/when the NBA resumes. Not many Euro clubs will do that.

But they already offered it to him yesterday. Him and Greg Oden. So they aren't free agents bcos it was done before the lockout. And as that makes Mills contracted by the Blazers, I don't know how they would feel about one of their players going overseas and possibly injuring themselves etc.

I dont think he is contracted, but either way the Blazers cant match anything while a lockout is on.

Assuming Mills actually wants to play in the NBL, why on earth would he want to play for the Sixers?

Surely money wouldnt be his #1 motivating factor so what has Adelaide got to offer that would make him come here over another club?

Mills family is basically all from SA or living here. Yes his roots are in Canberra but his family background is south Aussie... He has also stated before he would like to play here if he came back!

Would work really well for Mills, gets him ALOT of experience in a professional league as the main PG, something that if he really makes an effort at and is able to put up some big numbers will help raise his profile.
Even if he is contracted to Portland I dont think they have anything to lose by letting him play here, only benefits of experience he wouldnt gain as quickly with them. If he gets injured he isnt a vital part of their team anyway so its not going to ruin them.

One person isnt gona achive much!!! Should've got gibbo!! Paty ect get more money at training, than wat they would get here a season. May b4 all these guys retire, b like the A league, Pay marque players to come here for a holiday!! Rather invest in young talent, Australian talent.

Mills will definently be looking for a place to play during the lockout.
And the Blazers would actually support him playing in the league.

1)It would give him a chance to continue to develop his PG skills, and give him a chance to work on some of the weaknesses that the Portland management may have identified (decision making, controlling tempo, shot consistency)

2)He is still young and fresh (given he hasn't been playing big mins). Unlike older players who may require to rest and recover during the lockout period, the Blazers wouldn't mind him playing because of his age and good health.

3)The Blazers would be willing to grant him clearance, even though there is a possibility of injury. He isn't exactly the 'star player' of the team, and if he was to get injured, Portland management wouldn't care too much because of the depth they have at the PG position.

When there is a lockout on contracts are suspended, Mills and everyone else can now go and play wherever they like, he wasn't under contract anyway. He doesn't need a clearance or anything like that, NBA clubs can't have any contact with players during a lockout.

I think the biggest thing going for the Sixers re: Mills is that he's a diehard Crows fan and wears their guernsey around the Trailblazers locker room all the time. Then you factor in he has some family in Adelaide plus he already has a relationship with the 36ers where he buys season tickets for underprivileged kids too.

Granting clearance is not an issue, teams are forbidden from making any contact with players - the penalty? $1 million fine!

It was only a qualifying offer, he is not contracted, plus once the owners lockout the players, they are basically "temporary free agents" elsewhere outside the NBA.

I reckon Patty is well worth pursuing. He would be a very good plan B to Ervin. Would love to see him here, not only for his play on the court, but for the extra media interest he would bring to the NBL and the Sixers.

Stuff Ervin just go for patty who knows how long the lockout will go for and I follow the wildcats and patty mills in the Nbl would bring in more people in than what Ervin would doesnt matter how good or bad the sixes are playing at the time for the league it would be a great thing

What on earth did that article in the paper tell us this morning?! Boti may well have said that were a chance of signing K Bryant! We need some concrete information, not a whole lot of maybes.

We have as much chance of landing Mills as Ray Borner has in coming out of retirement and playing a full 40mins for every game with the Breakers.
Im a realist, not a believer on any type of crap that comes from media sources

Getting Mills wont fix the Sixers, if anything it has a potential to make it worse. If the lock out lasts only say for example a couple of months, we would have him for a short time then have to replace him & show the new guy the ropes.
just my opinion
