Jack yesterday when I went to some of the posts in the womens and juniors there was advertising for sex dating sites with semi naked women if that is acceptable for women and children in your house I am glad I dont live there

We aren't guaranteed "Freedom of Speech" in Australia. Just putting it out there.

Doesn't Google adsense / adchoices etc.. work on an algorythym which profiles your "search" behaviour online and put ads on your screen that reflect what you search for and sites you use? For example if you search or use a dating site or porn sites, that may change what ads you see on other sites, because they think they are catering for a user who cant get laid without the internet dating, or watches to much porn online. Can anyone confirm that to be the way it works ? :)

Thankyou @K that is totally correct. Lets say you wish to purchase a camera so you do your research online. Later you will notice that when you visit new, unassociated sites, advertising for the product you searched for will follow you to these new sites.
ie. checking the results on sportingpulse and there, amazingly is my camera;

Remember: Whenever you point your finger at someone, there are three pointing right back at you.

Delete your search history and the dirty ads and ladies will magically disappear.

Targeted advertsising sounds right as the first ad on my page is for "Flight Centre Online", and earlier today I was surfing the Qantas and Webjet websites looking up flights to Europe.

But let's not jump to conclusions about the types of sites Gerard visits to trigger the advertising he is seeing. eg. Maybe his wife uses the same computer and it is her surfing habits resulting in those ads ;)

Just to reaffirm the "algorithm" side of things, fiancée and I been looking at buying cars on various websites on this IPad....

Adverts as I type are for Peugeot, VW and Great Wall. (She got a BMW and I bought a Subaru.)

There is some truth to the algorithm. With all the fuss with the Solar mob, I clicked on their website to see if they still had the Sixers logo on it (which they did) and then every website I clicked on had the "Unleash Solar" ad come up.

I then cleared all the cache and haven't had one of their ads since - not even on the porn sites I visit.

Contextual ads can mean that a page about "women" (e.g., female basketball) will serve ads about women, which can include dating site ads. I don't think AdWords will serve more adult-oriented ads as Gerard mentioned, but ads for international dating sites can present a busty-but-clothed photo and are hardly ideal for a WNBL topic. Perfectly valid complaint and when I get better net access I'll try to blacklist these categories in AdSense. Censorship of ads, hmmm.

As has already been covered, the cry of censorship is a bit off track. The only way a post is not shown before even a user or moderator can see it is if a keyword or something else is blacklisted. It's automatic.

So Gerard was right to try to raise these ads as inappropriate, but probably a bit misguided to do it via the forum, quick to claim some sort of censorship of this specific issue without understanding the site, and wrong to bring in attack dog Ryan.

Gerard, in the future, you'll get better results just contacting me via the site's contact form rather than taking to the forum to claim censorship of your interest in, err, censoring ads.

Which is what a few of us said at the top of the thread..

Situation, those ads are fixed. e.g., I have specific arrangements with Dunk and NBL.TV (referral in the second case). The ads Gerard is probably referencing are the AdSense ads amongst the posts (there will be a link saying AdChoices below them) and might be blocked for anyone using an ad-blocker.

Ah, those. I don't have them blocked but I pay that little attention to them that I never notice them. Mine is currently for the WA state election.....shit, now Ryan knows where I live.
