Australian 7-footer Darcy Malone committed to LSU

Australian 7-footer Darcy Malone committed to LSU this week. It's not a commitment that came with much fanfare, but there’s always a back story. Last summer, Malone played a handful of minutes per game for the Aussie 17-and-under squad.

Here’s where it gets interesting. On that Australian team was junior guard Dante Exum, who recently visited Indiana, and elite sophomore power forward Ben Simmons, who is headed to Montverde Academy (Fla.) next year.

Getting the picture? LSU cracked open the Aussie pipeline with Malone. How’d the Tigers do it? Assistant coach David Patrick.

Patrick was instrumental in helping St. Mary’s recruit Australians like point guard Patty Mills. Patrick lived in Australia, played there and he’s now wired into the next wave of hoopsters. While Exum could be a stretch for the Tigers, expect to hear their name mentioned prominently with Simmons.

not sure what you're saying.

LSU got Malone because they really want to entice Exum and Simmons?

Sorry I should clarify.
This story was from the ESPN recruitment website by Dave Telep (ESPN analyst).

LSU has also signed Deng Deng this year as well.
So it appears David Patrick is trying to create a pipeline from Australia to LSU.

oh I get it!
So this is like one of those story's that isn't a story, right?

Either I'm missing something or there's nothing to miss.

If it makes it easier to get a pathway to college ball over there then glad to have help in the name of Patrick

Good to see another good prospect sign to a decent program.

Simmons will be a freshman starter at any program in the country so you'd think one of the major program UK,Duke,UNC etc would be top of the list.

Exum might not be a lock to start as a freshman in a major program but if he wants to get into the NBA you'd think he'd be heading to a major program as well....with UNC at the top of the line due to his fathers history

LSU are a solid program whom have had their struggles recently so you'd hope both our top prospects would be aiming higher a head to big school with regular national TV exposure.
