Channel 10 News just announced Trevor Gleeson as the coach..... not impressed....doesn't have much of a success record. A bit of a big head I think.
Surely there were better coaches than him out there???

Lets hope this decision doesn't shoot the Wildcats in the foot and the coach doesn't drive the members away that has been built up over the last few seasons.

Gleeson is a step down from Bevo in my opinion but I'm glad it was him if Patrick was the other option (if he was an option).

Hopefully he will do a better job than he did in Melbourne and Townsville I was hoping it would have been Adam Caporn

Hawthorn playing in the Eagles in Perth Friday night, Gleeson is the Hawks skills coach, could he be here just for that game???

haven't heard anything about Patrick?? But news crew probably wouldn't know who he is so he can slip through the airport without anyone knowing

I wouldn't say its a bad choice but time will tell if it's a good choice. Very keen to find out what's happening with our imports

Only problem with that theory is that the Hawks / Eagles game is in Melbourne

Well I've already got my season membership so hopefully whomever it is can justify my faith in buying a membership 4 months before the season starts.

Hopefully we make playoffs again and stretch our appearances closer to the world record (29 seasons in a row by Boston Bruins I think it is) and then after that its a whole new ball game!

Let's go Wildcats, Let's go

The above "Mick" is not me.

I thought Paul Woolpert was a better coach than Trevor Gleeson, in his first season. Obviously his second season cost him his job...

Gleeson can be a bit stiff and stubborn in terms of refusing to adapt lineups and strategies to suit the game situation.

Still he's a pretty good coach and you could do a lot worse.

Not that I've analysed his coaching, but Gleeson seems to be more if a motivator than a strategical coach. And that doesn't exactly suit the Wildcats because they are plenty motivated and always keep the chemistry high. In saying that, they've lost a few main guys so he might be of use in keeping that Beverage-era hunger level high.

Mick, Bevo was exactly the same with some of his rotations and inability to adapt to what was needed.

It'll be interesting to see if the Cats defense drops off, or if the players take it upon themselves to continue playing great D.

Past Gleeson teams have not been great at that end of the floor.

Gleeson did a good job in Townsville and obviously wasn't helped by the politics in Melbourne. Perth will still be a top 4 team unless the import/s are absoloute duds

It seemed to me that the culture of the Tigers won over the ability of Gleeson to change that same culture. Gleesoan wanted a hard working team. They got Anstey instead. Same Tigers culture.

CONFIRMED

Perth Wildcats sign Trevor Gleeson as head coach
The Perth Wildcats would like to announce that they have signed former NBL Coach of the Year Trevor Gleeson as their head coach for the next three seasons.
Gleeson is an Australian coach with more than twenty years of experience both in his home country and abroad.
He coached the Townsville Crocodiles from 2006 and in his first season improved their record from nine wins in 2005/06 to 20 wins in 2006/07. He's also the only coach in that club’s history to take the team to five consecutive finals series.
He has also been named the runner-up NBL Coach of the Year on three occasions, in 2006/07, 2008/09 and 2009/10.
Gleeson has coached five different teams in three different countries to the playoffs and has been a player scout for the NBA’s Portland Trailblazers. He was also the first Australian to be appointed head coach in the American Continental Basketball Association.
Gleeson says he has big plans for the Wildcats.
"I am very excited and honoured to be selected as the new head coach of the Perth Wildcats and am looking forward to building on the past and making this team in the premier team in the NBL," he said.
“I’m looking forward to coaching a passionate and cohesive Wildcats team, that plays hard, plays unselfish and plays together. They are qualities that I demand of my playing group.”
Wildcats managing director Nick Marvin says Gleeson is a perfect fit for the position
“Trevor established himself as the key candidate for the position with his hard working, honest nature and proven success as a coach and I believe he has what it takes to guide this club to another level.”
Trevor Gleeson began his career in the Victorian Basketball League before spending time coaching in Korea and the United States. He then returned to Australia where he coached the Townsville Crocodiles for five seasons from 2006.
In the 2010/11 seasons Gleeson led the Crocs into the playoffs with the second best record in the league and was awarded NBL Coach of the Year for that season.
He resigned from Townsville after that season and become the head coach of the Melbourne Tigers for the 2011/12 season.
Since then he has worked for multiple AFL clubs as a skills coach as well as running his own elite coaching education platform.

How am I ever going to hear "Gleeson" and not think of the comedian? Every time I see his name I start thinking of Red Rooster.

I hope he is able to bring back and recognize greats of our team during game nights, I hope last year wasn't all because of 30th year celebrations.

Well done Mr. Gleeson, we haven't came close to losing a game with you in charge yet!

Hopefully Dunigan and some ex NBAer are in our future

As far as I can tell the team websites are kept up to date pretty well.. nbl.com.au isnt reposting the stories at the moment though.

I think this is an alright signing, time will tell if it was a good or bad one but I wouldn't be jumping to conclusions either way at the moment.
