So in what capacity does Lemanis coach the Men then?

Doesn't coach them at SEABL
Doesn't coach them at World championship level
Doesn't coach them on day to day level

So how can he be head coach?

from 14 October:

Basketball Australia will continue to conduct residential programs for elite athletes in 2014 as we service the development of our emerging talented athletes.

Over the course of this year, Basketball Australia has established the BA National Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the AIS in Canberra, taking over from the previous AIS basketball program.

In January 2014, Basketball Australia will take full carriage of and responsibility for the CoE basketball program, including the management of the residential programs.

In establishing the CoE, Basketball Australia has appointed Andrej Lemanis and Brendan Joyce to full-time positions as Head Coaches of the Boomers and Opals respectively.

As part of their full-time roles they will also oversee the CoE - providing alignment throughout the men's and women’s national programs.

Following consultation with the Australian Institute of Sport, Basketball Australia can confirm we will conduct both men’s and women’s centralised, full-time residential programs at the CoE next year, under the guidance of Andrej and Brendan.

The men’s residential program will service predominately school-aged athletes with an associate coach under the direction of Head Coach Andrej Lemanis.

The women’s residential will be a hybrid program, servicing both school aged athletes as well as a number of emerging elite athletes coming into the CoE at the completion of their professional league seasons under the direction of Opals Head Coach Brendan Joyce and a women’s associate coach.

Basketball Australia will continue to consult with key stakeholders as we commence preparation for the 2014 CoE residential programs, including appointment of key staff and the recruitment of athletes. We will continue to keep stakeholders updated.

I do care what sex they are, just the best person for the job. To look over the best person for the job because the sex is not right, is just wrong.

I agree with that.

However, when the whole program does not have 1 female coach is pretty ordinary (and I'm a bloke).

At least 1 member of the female coaching staff should be a female to help develop more female coaches and elite level female coaches.

Who is Markus Kluseman? Never herd of him. Does anyone know who else had an interview for the Men's CoE AC job?

Unwritten rule - Girls program - have a female on staff.
Colleges - have a multiracial staff. Unwritten, but necessary.

Kluesmann is from ACT, was the 18men state head coach last year.

Sam Gruggen from BNSW interviewed for the position, I believe.

Never heard of Gruggen either. You would think that position would attract a higher profile coach. What's Kluseman and Gruggen done?

Higher profile coach for poor $ - you're like the traveling manager, film exchange guy, general office body as well as an assistant. You wear many hats in a role like that.

The money is hardly commensurate with a high profile coach.

Not the highest paid position going around, and Canberra is expensive to live in so it aint going to attract top shelf coaches. But then again, it is a bit of a development position so what would you expect?

Kluseman not an ACT guy, just in the program while on AIS PhD scholarship.

Point about pay level is spot on. If you weren't pretty close to being convinced that you had a pathway to a senior national team or NBL role of some significance, you'd have to be mad to move to Canberra for that kind of coin.
