NBL Cancels Las Vegas Summer League

Saw this in the bottom of the Marquee Player article;

'The NBL has decided to put on hold its plans to stage an off-season tournament in Las Vegas later this year. This follows a review of the progress to date, which raised concerns over the event achieving its key goals.'

Pretty disappointing.

Wonder if a few teams realised that for the most part they'd probably just be picking up imports they already knew.

Surely they would have worked this out before announcing it, building the website and talking about which players each club were sending over?

Hmmm. Feels like they are squandering a good opportunity but there must be a reason for it?

$$$ simple as that. Most clubs can't realistically afford to go

Good.. The nbl and the clubs just saved themselves thousands of dollars.. Now put that money into something more usefull such as membership drives and advertising

Finding the next Ced Jackson kind of helps with above.

Good move by the NBL, one step at a time. Don't rush into things.

I don't take issue with not proceeding - but announcing it, creating hype, then canning the idea looks like amateur hour. It seemed like a lot of prep went into the planning - but at no stage did the feasibility tests suggest holding off??

Probably a forerunner to cancelling next season. Just gauging public reaction.

Boti's site suggests the cancellation is related to ambiguous deal from the US end leading to it all going awry. Understandable from the NBL side. Doubt they would've taken this decision lightly.

Frustrating development, but better to back out early rather than get stuck with it blowing up later.

Clearly this had the markings of an US agent wanting to kick it off and more likely the lead of one coach maybe Aaron Fearne, as the agency running it has Shane Edwards on the book. As most things with agents, things don't end up the way they should and the dollars required to be inputted by the NBL clubs would probably be too high for teams right now. Most NBL coaches will head over there anyway for their own professional development and holiday in Vegas

So is there any way that the rich clubs can have a smaller version this allowing them the best opportunity for stud imports and can help give feedback for when the league expands to 12 clubs and they could hold a greater more professional Las Vegas Summer League tournament
