Most dominant age group in ABL?

Here is a question for you all. Who is the most dominant age group at the moment throughtout the central ABL? Which has the most stars and the most contributers?

I'm going to nominate the age group of those born in 1980. Reasons why...

Todd Gower(Sturt)
Cam Wilson(Woodville)*
Danny Phillips(West)*
Justin Wilkey(Centrals)*
Joel Goodenough(Eastern)
Ben Trebilcock(Eastern)
Daniel Thompson(Norwood)
Damien Scanlon(South, or was he '81?)*
Doug MacDonald-Taylor(Forestville)*
Tom Finklemyer(Sturt)
Marcus Hakendorf(Sturt)*
Toby Shaftener(Norwood)
Dallas Quigley(North)*
Tim Hodges(Southern)

Those are the ones that come to mind. There are quite a few big names there, especially up the top of the list, with alot of these players being starters for their respective teams, and if not, at least fist or second sub.

I also put a star next to the names if the players who never made any sort of state team throughout juniors, just to remind juniors out there that making state teams isn't everything.

I am interested to hear any other contenders for the best age group. Obviously this age group has an advantage over younger age groups because all these guys are 25 now and have had more time to establish themselves as players in the league. Also, I know that it is a very young league these days, but I must admit that i don't exactly know how old some of the youger players are.

Can throw Steve Pilkington(South) into the mix above too.

How many 30+ year olds are there?

I think Hakendorf made a state team. 16s maybe?

Excellent argument though. Will be interesting to see you, or others, throw up names from different age groups to see how they compare.

A good comparison would also be to see how the state groups for these age groups went.

Crusher is hitting 30, McKay according to DC is 126. Reesy is 36?

Can't think of any others

Hakendorf never made a state team, but this age group was one of the u16 groups that Richard Orlick took to the natinal championship, however Gower, Thompson, Shaftener and Todd Mathews(in US)are the only ones left playing out of that team! Which once again goes to show that making state teams, especially early ones isn't everything. This same age group didn't do so well in u18's, and stunk it up at 20's from memory (which had a under developed Schensner as a first year).

Dix and Cam Wood are over 30, Reggie and JB and Paul Bell must be getting close.

Who else was in Darren Ng's age group. He is the same age as Holmes isn't he?

Players worth mentioning born pre-1980 (and not far off) would include:
Jason Farman
Keith Krause
Andy Purgacz
Brad Davis
Ben Hodges
Blake Truslove
Scott Arnold

All great players.

For the women i would think the '82 would be the group of girls who have done the most from their bball, more than other age groups. I also think once they are done venturing out will come back to be stayers in the ABL comp.

Katrina Linder- USA college
Monique Bowley- WNBL
Kate Jenner- USA college
Caroline Nixon- USA college/EUROPE
Rachael Flannagan- WNBL
Melissa Hill- ABL/Wnbl squads
Jane Summerton- ABL
Emily Friters- USA college

jimmy de bas - Andy Mase was a player before your time. Just because you haven't heard of a player doesn't mean they weren't any good.

Both Mase boys can seriously play!

Griff, next time your up the hills, drop us a line.

The other Griff.
