It's not all doom and gloom

With the recent ordeal involving the Hawks everybody has jumped on the doom an gloom bandwagon. "The NBL will not exist soon" or dumb ideas like creating an Asian super league or turning the NBL semipro are doing nothing but harming the NBL brand especially when it comes from the diehards on this forum. Has everyone forgotten about Mark Cowans imminent return of the Dragons or Bendat Jr. And Sengstocks Brisbane bid? If the Gong does fall over it will be sad to see but we must remember that the NBL will make strides toward becoming a great league off the court as it already is a top tier league on court. Let's keep positive and unite as basketball fans.

Where are you hearing this?
or Bendat Jr. And Sengstocks Brisbane bid?
It's been withdrawn. It does not exist. It will not happen. At least not this coming season.

lol yeah not a very doomy gloomy past week:

1. Brisbane bid all but dead (Courier Mail)
2. Townsville meeting with league this week - part of the rescue proposal is asking for a handout (lol!) (Townsville Bulletin)
3. Hawks voluntary administration (Illawara Mercury)

4. and curiously Boti includes a line in one of his articles stating the Sixers aren't too healthy either (either botinagy.com or the Adelaide Advertiser)

Townsville already gets handouts from the league. So your "lol" is misplaced, anon...

I'd like to know who 'they' are. You never see or hear of anybody who claims to run the League.

The league is effectively run by the clubs, though there are some more influential than others - generally the strongest financially.

The staff listing from the NBL site is;
Interim CEO/General Manager of Operations - Bret Mactavish
General Manager of Commercial and Marketing - Helen Curran
General Manager of Community - Ian Heininger
Operations Manager - Guy Neville
Administration Manager - Deanne Goldschmidt
Media Relations - Jasmine Amis
Finance Manager - Colm O'Callaghan
Referees Manager - Mal Cooper

The chairman is Graeme Wade. They are currently without a CEO.

Diehards are airing gripes because this unrest remains year after year.

The league needs to take decisive action and decide on a new direction and ACTUALLY DO IT. The way it is going now is unsustainable, and theyve known it for a while now. Act or die. Those are the choices. Personally, the league can disappear for all I care. Maybe if it did, someone with a clue would decide to make an entirely new league here.

Thanks for listing Isaac. Perhaps the biggest indictment on the owners is they've taken over the league, and at a time when it needs to be looking its best to attract new commercial deals they have seven staff running the place!

Perth, Melbourne and NZ all have clearly more than that, which is almost scandalous considering the league has to be the chief driver of growth.

I know one owner wanted a break away league but was kicked out of the team owners meeting by Keneally and Harmison a couple of years ago. Had the right idea and could've saved his team, and the league. Other owners were nearly on board.
