From SA:

SA Metro:
Alex Mudronja Sturt Sabres Basketball Club),
Biar Garang (Centrals)

SA Country:
Harry Mills Eastern Mavericks/Willunga),
Ky Matthews-Hampton (Eastern/Strathalbyn)

Good result for SA! Some real talent coming through on boys too now.

Correct, my apologies that list is the under 19 Emus, disregard those names. Anyone care to list the 17's, go for it.

Has anyone ordered AND received footage of the U18 nationals this year? I put a paid order in during the competition and am yet to receive the footage.

My emails to the address shown on the invoice have gone unanswered.

Try giving Ballarat basketball a call and follow up with a further phone call in stead of email, see if that gets you an answer.

I'd say this is the makings of the team for the 2016 u/17 worlds, so athletes born 1999 and later. Basically the cream of last year's 16's nationals crop.

on the mens side I'll be really interested to see how
Mate Colina, 6'10
Callum Dalton, 6'9
Samson Froling, 6'9
Benjamin Fakira, 6'8 go because this side was initially lacking a bit of height but with these 4 its looking better

others I'll be interested in seeing
Tom Fullarton, he seems to be fitting in really well at the CoE
Biar Garang, can he add scoring to the athleticism
Dragon Elkaz, looks to have grown taller
Jordan Starr, living in the US and playing AAU
Kye Hampton-Matthews, can he continue to be a lead scorer

Yes it will be interesting I'm not sure if all the 2000 kids will get through considering it's u/17s I witnessed some really great athletic talent from the 18 Nationals why would they all be bottom ages ..,

Given the lineage, I would assume Froling will be part of the final group even as a bottom ager. Of the four children, he's probably the one with the highest ceiling.

No, she isn't.

Lineage? Who your family are should be irrelevant to the selection process. Shame it often is more important than talent though.

There will be plenty turn up, you will have to wait until Nationals.

6 months, 12 months players can chnage incredibly if they get some good coaching and work hard.

What about Melbourne tigers girls who are still sitting
On top of the ladder unbeaten. They also
Have quality players in Letts Conti and Babic.
Some talented kids get over looked. I'd have at least
One of them in that side. Some people have
To much pride. Like any all star team is usually
Picked on the teams that are usually near the
Top of the standings.

Very talented girls will miss out everywhere unfortunately. Given the Tigers girls missed the state team, going to be tough for them to make a national one I'm guessing.

Couldn't agree more but unfortunately in basketball it is generally WHO you know not what you know that gets you places and even the ones that get there on their own merit often find themselves ousted at the pointy end, not fare no, but basketball (and probably most sports) yes

Heal was the by far best the guard at the last national competition she featured in. Tough to say if she is right now. I would say her counterpart is a better PG though. QLD South are likely to have the best backcourt at U16s.

As for lineage, not only were Sam's parents ballers, but so were his siblings who are still involved in the program, and have proven to be quality assets.

You might not like the fact that someone's surname might give them a leg up but it helps the selection group to better assess what they might have.

And there it is.

I would argue the opposite.

Children of famous sports people can often be coached within an inch of their life when very young, so can stand out in the early years.

Often better athletes fly by as they get access to good coaching and start to understand how it all works.

That is not a comment on any of these individual kids by the way.

And QS don't have a monolopy on PGs, but we will have to wait for Nationals.

If by 'early years' you're including U16s U18s and U20s, then yeah I guess we agree. Bolden Simmons Exum Froling(s) have all stood out in those 'early years' and continue to do so despite being born from 'famous' basketball parents.

You would have to think on talent alone HEAL would be invited to a camp at least. Queensland South will have a talented back court.

Shyla Heal was arguably the best player in the U14 nationals competition last year.

Jess McDowell-White was the starting point guard as a bottom age player in the team Queensland South team that finished second.

Victoria Metro will show some talent with Isobel Anstey, Lana Hollingsworth etc.

Regardless of age, they need to select the best players to compete for positions.

Will be a great U16 nationals.

Steph Curry and Klay Thompson have something to say about the relevance of lineage...

There are unquestionably talented kids whose parents were not great basketballers or even great athletes. But to suggest that a kid's record of achievement should be taken with a grain of salt if he has a famous last name? Please.

Apply this:

"The style of play I want to adopt is not built around one or two people, it's going to be about a whole team effort at both ends of the floor and I want to be able to play a pretty quick style of basketball.

“I was definitely looking for athleticism as well as kids who have a high level of skill and are smart players. I think that will be the strength of this group, having multiple talented players on the court at once. Now the challenge is to get those players to work well together and be able to gel as a team."

To this:

Rebecca Abel (Tas) Penguin
Ella Batish (Vic Metro) Sandringham
Callie Bourne (ACT) Norths
Lucy Cochrane (Vic Metro) Sandringham
Abby Cubillo (NT) Darwin
Najvada George (Vic Metro) Dandenong
Hannah Lehman (SA Metro) Forestville
Cassidy McLean (NSW Country) Newcastle
Lara McSpadden (NSW Country) Newcastle
Ezi Magbegor (Vic Metro) Coburg
Tayla Mole (Tas) Wellington
Rebecca Pizzey (Vic Metro) Bulleen
Darcy Rees (SA Metro) Forestville
Kiera Rowe (Vic Metro) Bulleen
Jazmin Shelley (Vic Country) LaTrobe Energy
Jasmine Simmons (NSW Country) Bathurst
Samantha Simons (SA Metro) Forestville

If he sticks to approach, should be interesting to see who makes the final 12.
