2015 u19 Worlds Men - Aus v Canada

Guys about 30 minutes now to game one for our Aussie men Emu team v Canada in Group C.

http://www.fiba.com/world/u19/2015

There is a live video stream on the FIBA web site.

Sad that we don't get TV coverage at this level, but at least we can watch it on a live feed, good luck to our Emus...

Turkey just completed a solid win 74-64 against Argentina. I think Turkey basketball looks pretty strong.

Streaming via YouTube channel is great.

Terrible opening to the game by both teams - terrible shooting and shot selection. Can only get better.

Early indicators are that our lack of size and rim protection may be an Achilles Heel. 5 minutes in and we are down 4-8, struggling to get open looks.

McDowell-White and Mcveigh both starting on the bench. Will be interesting to see the rotations. Also, is there a reason we always seem to wear shorts a few inches shorter than opposition at these international underage comps?

Not sure our shorts are gonna do it, we need to play much better than that first quarter. Everyone got a run and we are down 8-17.

If Canada had not missed several shots they should have got we'd be in big trouble.

At the moment we are playing like individuals with huge egos, turning it over in stead of passing to an open team mate. Hope we can get it together before we are out of it?

Time out with 7.23 to go in second quarter 12-17, we got a couple of lucky shots in and Canada also buggered up some moves to score. Bit cautious from both teams at the minute.

That would have to be unfortunately one of the worst quarter of basketball I've ever seen an Australian representative team play absolutely no strategy and zero execution. it is a real shame that basketball Australia decided to save money by using aid caporn as a coach. He has very very limited on court coaching experience and has had no experience as an assistant at world Championships it shows up very badly in his choice of team and the way they are playing.
Hope things get better quickly as there is enough class in this team to win.

Since when does Kyle Clarke turn down an open look and pass to Dejan who jacks up a useless off balance 3 bomb that doesn't even get close?

WTF??

Another time out with 1.49 to go in the half, we down 26-28 but have a game on our hands.

Two things I have noticed, one is that William McDowell-White is a talent and belongs. He is our best PG for sure.

Two, if we can't defend the rim we need to block their run or they will dunk the crap over us.

Not sure why we needed glover. So many guards already..
Needed an excellent rebounder in froling.

30-30 at half time, Jack White with two opportunities to dunk near the siren, blocked then fouled but no call. I will take that score line, both teams had their chances and their problems but we can improve more than Canada, I hope.

Have to agree, no reason at all I can see Glover being of any use in this team, too young and we have plenty of shooting guards, just a strange choice but nothing personal, he is a great kid.

Our backcourt length started to trouble Canada towards the end of the half.

I don't think it's necessarily a lack of height in the frontcourt that is hurting us as much as it is a lack of strength and physical development, which is to be expected when you bring over such a young side.

Well, it hasn't been a classic by any stretch, but we are only down by 4 points at the last quarter. Would have been more if we stayed with the guard duo of DJ and Tom Wilson, we need Will Mc-White on court to win this or at least have a chance.

It may come down to who hits a couple and who misses a couple. Canada stepped out of bounds twice in that quarter, lost chances to score so we need to step it up and continue to fight it out.

Minute and a half to go, time out and we down by 6 points.

Couple of points to make, whether we lose or perform a miracle (unlikely).

Guards DJ and Tom Wilson are not as good as Will Mc-White, neither is Tanner Krebs.

Next point is this, agree with anon^, we are going to rely on our outside shooting to win games and it has not won us this game, so we need a better plan.

Good luck boys, you can play better!

A three point loss 71-74, but we had to grind it out to even get that close. We are not a bad team though, we just need to start better and be more consistent, play with more confidence and be less selfish.

Should be an easy fix really!

Can't let any team at a world's get that sort of lead in the 1st qtr and hope to win. Really need some more points from the bigger players. It's no surprise that DJ, Wilson & McDowell-White were our three leading scorers.

However, can't play all three together as we'd be way too small.

Agree with the post above about Clarke giving up an open look. Take the shot son. That goes for them all, if you're open, then shoot.

We had our chances - couple of fouls went against us, we didn't shoot great from the 3 or the FT line. Hopefully, they'll identify those and make some adjustments.

It is important to get a lead and maintain it. Not having to play catch-up. Hopefully they'll learn from that.

Interesting to see the court time for both teams.

Appears to me like Canada knew who their best 4 or 5 players were. Whereas, it would appear, we're still trying to figure out who our best players are.

Not out of it, but can't afford another loss it we want to get to the knock out rounds.

We saw what was expected from this team I believe, especially when they started to play well, but whether this team and how they have to play as selected can go much further remains to be seen.

If we shoot it as poorly as last night and turn it over like that game, if we are not confident from the first whistle, I am worried...

I am sure they will improve, good luck to the group in their next game, at least the live stream was great to watch with no lag and good quality viewing.

As much as you budding coaches all have opinions - but how about some support for the team. Aren't we all Australian.

The team has been selected. Most of those named in one of the posts above either were unavailable or made themselves available. So that's history, we need to look forward. No point moaning about what if's, because they won't happen!

Bear - Unfortunately turnovers happen every game. I know coaches don't like them, but they happen. Players, like coaches make mistakes. I'd like to see/hear the first coach that admits he made a mistake and benches himself for 1/2 a qtr because of his mistake! We had 15 turnovers, Canada 25. I can live with that. So in that context we were OK.

I must say I agree Froling should have been picked. His height and size would have been an asset. Also, %wise he is a better 3pt shooter than DJ and he doesn't mind shooting it from there either and he's got some fight in him.

Anon^ I appreciate your point that we had less turnovers, my point was in context to how we played.

Turnovers happen, no issue with that, but some of them were just dumb and resulted from isolated selfish style of play, we need to address our team play to go further in this event and turnovers can mask other issues.

I am fully behind the team by the way, just making a point, I am sure the coaches and everyone concerned is doing a great job and will adjust for the next game accordingly.

The team selected is not a bad team, yes I agree we may have an extra guard where we could have gone big and only gained by that, but everyone selected deserves their spot and if we can all play with the confidence Will has shown, well you just never know...

Canada ran good oofence which set up players We played a lot of one on one There are alwyas going to be more turnovers when you want players to make something happen rather than use an offence to create an opportunity.
