Poor start by the Opals. A real brickfest. With Saturday's nerves out of the way I was expecting a more settled and dominant performance. So far it hasn't worked out that way.
14-14 at quarter time and lucky not to be trailing after a brain fart to end the period.

Some of those fouls were a bit iffy.

Wow!
We suck.

What's gonna happen when our players overseas retire in the next year or so?

NZ are driving inside and Opals don't really have a shot blocker in the key to stop it. Having a 6"8 player parked in the paint would have been handy on both ends.

Burton doesn't appear to be very good at offense or defense. She is impressive running in between though.

Missed the Saturday gam due to work. If this is anything to go by I am glad I did.

"Burton doesn't appear to be very good at offense or defense. She is impressive running in between though."

Hahaha... that's a very underappreciated aspect of basketball. Good scorers & passers get most of the attention, good defenders & rebounders get respect from the knowledgeable fans, but the truly savvy observers recognise someone who excels at "running in between". When basketball becomes more like the NFL and has a huge squad that includes a Special Teams lineup, that's when Nat will really come into her own :p

fstos, this first half has actually been better IMO than Saturday was :-/

It is interesting to see how we are playing (over the two games) now that Brendan Joyce has had the team for a reasonable length of time.

whilst he doesn't have the OS stars the strategy and game play is very underwhelming

I have read a lot about the Burton & Lavey selections and game time. Only a small glimpse but I can sort of get the Lavey love because there seems to be some future there and we are short on speedy PG's BUT Burton.....sheeesh. Probably BJ's craziest decision since...I was going to say SOJ but I think this one is harder to understand.

Is this the prize for winning line sprints at training?

Burton would be the greatest netball goalkeeper of all time.

Lavey has a future with cole and Wallace being the other 2 pg's.
Burtons stats throughout history show next to nothing. It is a waste of time when we can develop others..

fstos you contradict with yourself. Ok for Lavey to be chosen because she is "speedy" but not for Burton ?
You re right though, basketball is not = speed

Probably didn't explain myself. Lavey shows she has some game and potential. Burton shows nothing. I can't recall ever seeing a player who does less at any reasonable level.

Wasn't the most impressive performance, but they did what they had to do to get the W.

I don't think anyone expected a different result, but to the Ferns credit they made it interesting for a half.

Off to Rio and hopefully yet another medal

Now, just hoping there aren't any brain farts from the Boomers coming up.

After the first five minutes that was a really good game, intensity and execution well above Saturday's level.

NZ played well at both ends, first team to realy expose the Opals perimeter defence in the Joyce era, and Cocks was incredible.

The Opals weren't as impressive, but Hodges and Batkovic were class and made sure there was no chance of losing. It's good to have a serious test like that and see who's up to it and who's not.

Does anyone ever post anything positive? All I read is negativity and bias against a coach, players and team that is winning. Finally we have a coach with balls to select a team not based on reputation and one that looks to the future. Sounds to me like there is a lot of jealousy amongst the comments.

Great work by the Opals. Did what needed doing and now they'll be going to Rio. Obviously it was far from perfect, but the job is done.

Now I just gotta try and get some tickets to the women's games for when I'm there!
