You won't see the Restricted Player list until January as it is based on NBL stats as of the 31st December.

Cody Ellis has played 50 minutes over 12 games (4.2mins per game), so unless he plays starters minutes for the rest of the season, I can't see him finishing above the restricted player limit of 10 mins per game.

Has Vague signed? He was mentioned as a target for the Hobart SEABL team in their media.

Going to need to break out the sponsors dollars if they are paying 2x import, Vague and Ellis. Even Coburn and Litterick could probably start to think about getting some $ to move.

the restricted /non restricted ruling will have a bigger impact on the womens competition this year in wa.
with really only cody ellis , maybe we might see hire and a few other wildcats bench play SBL ? I cant see the ruling affecting the mens comp
the women however is different with kunek, burton probably being restricted but then there are a number of other girls on the fringe minutes wise . not sure about Edmondson, ash grant, Thompson, boag and im sure ive missed others. perhaps others coming from the east . this potentially could change a few teams if they become restricted/non restricted

HUGE FINAL TONIGHT AT THE GOD-DOME!

Party Flava

Shawn Redhage
Matt Nielsen
Kyle Armour
Damien Scott
Mark Heron
Joel Wagner

Most Legends

Ben purser
Ryan Smyth
Josh Garlepp
Fletcher Creelman
Cooper Hamilton
Mitch Clarke

One side has two former Boomers and a stack of SBL talent the other is basically a Hawks team minus imports.

Both semi finals were closer than expected and were firey affairs. Coogee put up a great fight while Ramjets blew a 15 point lead to eventually be outclassed by ML.

Prediction: Word on the street is some players have prior commitments and have asked it to be pushed later.
Will this effect the outcome?

Hard fought game by both teams.

ML winning by 4 points at the end.

The biggest surprise out of the game is 17 year old Mitch Clarke.

The point guard is currently in the final 15 for WA state try outs and looked more than capable defending senior guards in Scott and Armour.

Props to Most Legends.

A champion team will always beat a team of champions.

BET365 would have been paying $10's for that upset.
Well done!

Breaking News!

Coach Clarke (Kalamunda MSBL Head Coach) steers Under 15 Division 2 Men to State Championship title by playing 2-3 zone defense for the ENTIRE tournament - going undefeated!

With such an emphatic result will Coach Clarke now consider using the same strategy to win the 2018 SBL Championship?

You would be amazed the number of coaches who use zome as their 'primary offence' at WABL level.

SBL coaches should know better, especially at that age,

He actually ran it for the entire game against a half strength Under 14 Southern Cross Challenge Team. Those boys would have NEVER seen a zone.

Smith and Cummings are both very good ballers and I am sure will rotate through starting spots with DT in a three way rotation between them all. Parsons will change line ups based upon who he's playing against. Carlwell could not start some games based on match ups.

Adekponya will end up where ever pays the most money plain and simple and I doubt Perry Lakes have those funds.

Carter Cook has a Geraldton girlfriend and he's an American. Still classed as import.

People are bagging out Zone defence. If you can run a good zone, its actually harder than playing man to man. Syracuse which is known as one of the top schools in America live by the zone. Its all about personnel.

Kids have to learn to play it somewhere. Six games in two days is a pretty good situation to teach, especially if you have your best team in second div.

Half the kids playing in that division would have come straight from 14s. If you ask me it's a chump move from a chump coach. Develop your players or go try that crap in 17s or 19s and see how that works for you. Also, why does BWA continue to have the odd age groups for state champs? Can we either make wabl the same ages or once and for all change the state champs divisions to align with WABL

Reply #661238 | Report this post

Anonomous
Years ago

I coached a bunch of kids from last winter U/14s and they all knew all about zone defenses. Maybe opposition coaches could have worked out a way for their team to combat a zone. If you watch U/14s in WABL you will know zone is played a fair bit. They won't call it that but it is what it is.
If you can't understand why the age groups are different to WABL, send BWA an email and I'm sure they will have you quickly informed so you will, along with 20000 other people, understand the concept.

Hawks will need punches off the bench. Thomas isn't the same player as he was in his Buccs days, looks to distribute a lot more, so i think you will see Thomas start and control the game and then Clarke come on and provide uptempo spark when scorers come off.

In other news SBL RedBacks might not be getting Redhage back. Money has been thrown big at him from some clubs.

I would like to see Bucc's win a title.

They almost always get 2 x legit imports.
Over last 10yrs their recruiting would be near flawless.

So Im confident they can tick that box.

The fringe NBL guy they almost nail every time (apart from 2017).

Now what I want to see Bucc's do is get a couple good role players from the city.
Easier said then done I know, but they dont need to be stars.
Just solid hard working guys, who give u that depth.

I will put a list together tomorrow of players that can help them.

Huge for SBL D1 Women out of Kalgoorlie. Theyve done a lot for junior basketball in the last two years, with D1 Men and then D1 Women, an effort that can be best described as mammoth. Kalgoorlie isn't the booming town it used to be but they’ve developed some solid basketballers. As I understand a number of metro clubs aren’t happy with the addition, extra $$s. yet Goldfields travel to Perth 6 times a year...

Reply #662015 | Report this post

Voelkel signing is huge, his all round numbers last season were amazing.

It will be interesting to see how well he handles playing for the worst/ losingest coach in the recent history of the SBL. With a less than 2% win ratio look for that whole program to slide backwards very quickly.

Rubery confirmed as Giants head coach for next year
As for the Perth teams complaining about he Div 1, that's an extra 1k per year they have to find.
Try doing it 3 or 4 times a year for the Goldfields Team, considering one of them is to Gero as well.
