Giannis Antetokounmpo - born in Australia?

I've just been watching the Houston vs Milwaukee game on ESPN and noticed the commentators mention that Giannis was born in Australia. I assumed at first that they had got this confused with Maker however in the last few seconds they said it again. I checked his Wikipedia page and there is no mention of him being born in Australia.

This is just a mistake from the commentators right?

Understandable mistake to see his surname and assume that he's from Melbourne.

Statistically, no but almost.

Athens has more Greeks than any other city on earth. Then Melbourne. Then daylight.

That might be the first time "Melbourne. Then Daylight" has ever been true here.

Bill Worrell is a senile old fool. I'm a long time Rockets fan and he makes silly comments like that all the time.

They also said that Malcolm Brogden got a few rookie of the year votes as well and that he'd end up a nice player. Dude won ROY.

Perth get the win over the Boomers and Luuuc comes out with a bunch of Melbourne jokes...

With endless posts about Kyrie representing Boomer's this could've been another nightmare if misinformed people heard it and believed it. Wonder how many out there still think he can play for Australia.

Umm, he's Greek and that's his name, so by definition it's a Greek name.
