Retirement decision will depend on injury: Damo

Damian Martin has expressed a desire to continue playing but has revealed he has been managing an Achilles injury this season and has not been able to practice much.

If the doctors recommend surgery, it will likely mean the end of his career.

I hope Damo can keep playing!

I think he'll keep going as a bench player on minimal $$ and move into a mentoring role in the squad.

Damo can earn plenty off the court so playing hurt or battling along for a bench role and small money probably isn't super appealing!

If it was his last game it was a pity he couldn't celebrate that last victory in the knowledge it was the championship game.
Normally defensive specialists are disliked, mainly because they're nuisances and a bit dirty. But never heard one single bad thing about Martin, players, coaches or spectators.
Hopefully he can turn to coaching, would say any team would love him to be on board. Posts about players being ordinary coaches has been discussed with 36ers search, but Martin would have the respect, temperament and knowledge of culture to be successful. Just be a matter of X and O's.

Unfortunately, based on past injuries, if he says he has a sore Achilles and can't train, it likely means his foot is hanging by a thread.

If he does retire, Perth MUST keep him for at least one more (home) game. Give him the acclamation and send-off he deserves.

Should have been the face of our league instead of Goulding. Alas, being thr greatest defender ever and winning enough rings to sink a ship aren't things Aussies admire....apparently. Not to mention his likability.

6 rings. 6 defensive player of the year awards.
Pound for pound one of the toughest yet likeable guys to ever play.

safe to say he's scored more points then anyone here... And likely stopped more points then anyone in the league

Casper stats this year are very similar to his championship year with United, he's not the only king that wasn’t perfect. Coaches also never change much up.

" And likely stopped more points then anyone in the league"

Untrue. No player has ever scored on me in the NBL!

The Wildcats posted pictures of Damo today following what they described as heel surgery.

He mentioned in his final press conference that he had to see a specialist to determine if he needed surgery with an "Achilles" problem and if he did, that would likely spell the end.

Given the surgery is on the heel, does that make him more likely to carry on?

He has confirmed that he had a "full achilles reconstruction"
but he wants to play on, and the delay is helping his chances.

Good stuff
