How Imporant are Worlds

Watching and interview with Frank Lowy last night. Football has a plan to improve and is progressing well leading up to and following the World Cup.

Even though basketball is coming off a higher base in terms of its international placing, how important for the sport is its performance at the World Championships? Will they receive any more exposure through a good performance, or conversely will a bad performance be to the sports detriment.

The fact that FTA coverage will not be as prominent is also a negative.

I know some of these issues have been covered individually (Football and FTA), but it's becoming more topical as we are less than a month out.

The exposure will start not in a month's time but tonight if we don't beat NZ, IMO.

If you subscribe to the "any exposure is good exposure" theory, then this is fine.

But if you subscribe to the "some forms of exposure aren't really that useful - just ask Rex Hunt" theory, then a win tonight - even if it gets portrayed by the media that care as a "get out of jail" or "taking care of business" type win - is essential.

At the worlds themselves, I think the best way for Australia to get noticed is to beat the US. We could lose every other game and finish last, but if we beat the US along the way that would hold greater currency with the general public than just about anything else I can think of.

Unless, that is, as a wise poster has already suggested, some wacky Japanese dairy food company releases Bogurt Yoghurt to coincide with the Boomers rolling into town. Now THERE'S a story.

yea... Bo is on point there... for half assed fans aswell, if we play Lithuania and won, that would be fair big aswell. If we do bad, then atleast real fans know its all Gorjians fault, if thats how you even spell the chumps name.
