Crocs take game one of World Champs
The Australian Young Men (Crocs) have kicked off their World Championship campaign in Argentina with a convincing win over Greece, 94 81.
The Crocs were scheduled to face Israel on day one of competition, but with Iran pulling out due to visa complications the draw was changed and Australia took on the power house of Greece instead.
The Aussies were no strangers to the Greek outfit after playing them in the Jack Donohue Classic in Canada prior to Argentina. They overcame the Greeks in Canada with their defensive effort and this game was no different.
Coach Molloy's comment summed up the men's effort "I contribute the win to the outstanding defensive effort put in by the guys, added to their rebounding display it helped us defeat the team from Greece."
Molloy was also ecstatic to get game one under the belt "I was pleased with the result of starting the tournament this way. Also very pleasing was the broad contribution of scorers we had, with six of the team notching up double figures."
NBL Rookie of the Year Brad Newley topped scored for the Crocs with 22 points. The point scoring didn't stop there though with the team sharing the honours around, Bruce (15), Carter (12), Janev (11), Maric and Allen (10).
The Crocs will now be officially welcomed to Argentina as the Opening Ceremony gets under way in Cordoba. The men take on Canada in round two of competition on Saturday (Argentina time). The Crocs loss to the Canadians in the final of the Jack Donahue Cup will have them looking for revenge. Stay connected with all the latest results from Argentina at www.basketball.net.au
