The thing with the Slammers is back when they were good (around 2015), the four Americans would play 40+ minutes each game and the SBL caliber locals would get no court time. Those locals have since all quit playing SBL and you are stuck with a bench of players who wouldn't even start for their local club teams having to be SBL players.
Who is more illegitimate as a club at the moment in terms of long term future in the league, South West or East Perth? Both programs having clear issues at multiple levels, if push came to shove which of these programs will dissolve in the near future? For mine as a state, we need an SBL team in the South West for country kids to have goals to stay in the sport and not be lost to football or netball. East Perth juniors can be picked up by Warwick, Perth, Perry Lakes etc.
Teams complaining about atmosphere in certain places is a travesty and a mark on the league. No one wants to play in front of sterile fans and no atmosphere home or away if it's done in a fun and energetic way those teams that can produce such a thing shouldn't have to hear about it afterwards. It's called home court advantage for a reason. Grow up

"SBL GM overheard at Allstar game telling an SBL coach that they are not even looking at clubs over salary cap this year. incompetence laziness OR is Mr Bowler scared of Mr Bockaut and Mr Britt?"
Think about what you are asking. How on earth does the SBL have the resources to investigate payments? And even if they did, personal bank records aren't public record, would require a subpoena from a court I think and even then they would be told to piss off. Don’t mistake them for having the same avenues of information that statute authorities have such as the ATO and police.
So how would the SBL police it understanding that cash payments would be unrecorded, and other massive loopholes I can think of in moments.
craig Reynolds was not popular amongst the playing group. (too bad girls suck it up) . not sure how this team will go with the young fella coaching them Crawford . also how many games does alex ciabattiono need to play to qualify for finals . my understanding that it was always 9 games. if that's the case then she wont qualify so this exercise is a waste of time.
this whole womens completion is as wide open as I have seen it in recent seasons , there is no whitcomb or schagmeyer playing . in actual fact the quality of imports is horrible , you only need to look at last weeks all-star game.

One only has to look at the post and subsequent comments on the Flames facebook page about reynolds RESIGNING to see that this is not what the club is saying. Most notable would be T.Ys comment and GIF. All is not well down at good old rockingham by the looks of things
@746776 lol, you're proving my point snowflake. We have police, and yet people get shot, and drugs are flowing through the streets. just because we can’t stop all of it, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have rules in place.
So thanks for that. #backtoschool #graduation
it depends on if you count guys like Alex Loughton who played some games on a short term basis in the SBL. Id take him over Nelson any day of the week.
Jarrad Prue may want to argue this statement too. The best rebounder in the history of the SBL.
lets not forget 2010 where we had a prime cam tovey and daniel johnson in the league as well as prime stephen weigh, jesse wagstaff and a few other wilcats guys. you did say last decade so technically these guys are in
Two weeks ago
...and you base this on what?
Yes, he is leading the scoring in the SBL this season, but what else did he achieved?
2 points and 1 rebound a game in his only NBL season, he's 25, Rhys Vague is 23 with two NBL championship under his belt.
Cody Ellis, multiple NBL seasons; Tom Jervis, Greg Hire, just to name a few.
Marshall Nelson is a great Australian player in the SBL, but to call him the best in a decade is an over reach
Two weeks ago
Best in a decade is a reach , he is the best player in sbl this year, the fact that they are in the 8th with the team around him is an achievement in itself plus he gets double and triple teamed almost every play and still leading the league in scoring and 3point %
No one has made shots like he does yes Wagstaff and Laughton and others very good players but did not make tough shots like Nelson he gets doubled most games and still consistently shoots well and can score at will similar to a Stephen Weigh with less of a dick personality. Cam Tovey DJ all very good as well but didn't dominate like this.
just looking at the goldfields giants run home . I can see them potentially winning 8 games of the last 10 games which would see them finish with 17-9
im guessing this would put them around 3-6 position.
are the positions determined by percentage or does it go on head to head ? if they finish in the top 4 , could be an outside chance to make G.F .
parso should have won coach of the year last year and lets face it he is one of the strongest candidates this year. Wayne creek surely has to be in the mix after his job with the Giants. They have been irrelvant in the league the last few years and gone through handfuls of coaches.
most improved i would have to say louis timms.
MVP would be Nelson or Braun. Timms would have taken some votes from Braun so id say Nelson probably edges him out.
defenders id say humphries from giants.
Gee I tell ya, wouldn't want to run into the Tiglets any time soon. They're dangerous, won 5 of their last 6 when things were looking bleak. Narrow losses to Buccs and Wolves.
One of those teams that could catch fire and its left right, nighty night.
Yes the Tigers are improved since changing imports, however the new import is out, for the season I'm guessing, and take a look at their next 5 games:
That's most likely 4 losses and their season gone.
Last week it was said that they signed Adekponya, yet he didn't play on the weekend. He can't play enough games to qualify for playoffs and he won't be cheap, so why bother.
redbacks signed lee roberts and he was not cleared to play with enough games to qualify for playoffs. they also sent their other import home.
they are currently 8 wins and 11 losses in 9th position.
with their run home being Wolves (away), Flames (away), Suns (home), Buccs (home), Hawks (away), Magic (home) and Cougars (home) it would look like they will miss the playoffs this year.
My question is, if this were to be the case, would this be Lako's last year as HC?
Some were surprised lacko didnt retire after GF win. and then again after last year bailing in the quarters.
After 7-8 years and now with wife and young family, i reckon he might be thinking of not going around again.
would be a boring forum in 2020 without lacko to sledge.
This from the official SBL Preview last week....
"There's every chance both teams will have a new face too with the Redbacks a chance to welcome back 2017 Grand Final MVP Lee Roberts while the Tigers have signed exciting swingman Matthew Adekponya to replace injured import Chris Galbreath."
No they haven't. For starters you have to be injured. It's widely known that Roberts is not playing due to Visa problems, not injury. Don't post a stupid comment to try and create controversy when most intelligent SBL watchers know the real deal. Just makes you look like a fool.
Both can't and won't qualify - a lot of sh*t stirrers on here, as we know.
Teams adding ineligible players to save face (Redbacks) or if a top 4 team, to try and peg the top 2 spot
varying reasons, but the courageous decision most times is save budget and blood the youth - courageous though rarely seen
'varying reasons, but the courageous decision most times is save budget and blood the youth - courageous though rarely seen'
So who influences this decision...the Club or the Head Coach?
Interesting to see which Clubs and/or Head Coaches are process-driven or purely outcomes focused...
So that's 7 imports who have been replaced/released this season from the mens SBL. Must be a record.
Connor (Buccs) - replaced
Salmon (Giants) - replaced
Demunyiak (Redbacks) - released
Hymon (Tigers) - replaced
Galbreath (Tigers) - injured
Milam (Cougars) - released
Voelkel (Slammers) - replaced
You could also add Zollo from the Eagles but not sure if he was ever signed. Also a few from the women have moved on as well.
if imports play, it will be for 6 weeks. hardly a big financial call for a club! . hardly saving face and hardly a courageous decision?
if a program is developing juniors they also develop when training and playing with great players (imports)! otherwise its just Div 1.
the only face that needs to be saved is if clubs that have spent every possible $$ dancing the salary cap throwing $$$ to but the chip, barely played any juniors all season and then still don't win?
some may even turn green ... again!
Tough loss for Ego'ridge and the Wolves down against a very undermanned Rockingham team (No Hire or Ritchart). Is it just me or do they have some major rebuilding to do in the next year or two. The game seems to have gone past Salinas and Huntington now, and Iliadis won't be far behind. Or do they do what they did ten years ago and just get the cheque book out for Warwick's best younger talent - Litterick would be the obvious target to replace Huntington. Who else could they look at poaching from other clubs then claim as their own five years down the track?
A few of the Wolves big names are def looking older, but seem to get themselves right for finals
Will be a test for the PAck if the older bodies are up for it - Agree above
Sauces (tomato, bbq) suggest that Etteridge and Trigga will be looking for new gigs if no banner
very costly loss to the goldfields giants on sunday. with bowie injured they may struggle to make the playoffs . yes they have an easy run but look what happened over the weekend , close scare against Mandurah and then loose to the slammers.
Earlier this week
lol I think they will be fine they are 2 wins ahead of 8 spot with Tigers x2 Eagles Cockburn Slammers and Suns this week even if they lose this week coming up that is about as easy run home as anyone has all teams below them. Just need to win one of those and they are in no problem.
haha giants will 100% be in the playoffs this year. the loss to slammers is probably more a bit of a wake up call than the wheels have fallen off.
I dont think even Ricky Grace could help the Magic right now. Great to see his son in the League though.
It will be interesting to see what plays out this offseason with coaches as you could very well see quite a few changes across the league
Surely Lako will be done after this season
Trahair doesnt seem to have made any inroads into changing Mandurah's fortunes after 3 years. Do they bring him back again?
If the above poster is correct and Ettridge is on the block if they dont win then he will be leaving because no way Wolves win it this year.
Eagles seem to be having problems far bigger than just their coaching staff
Does Nener continue at Cougars?
giants will make the playoffs but that loss on sunday will hurt their final position . could mean going to Geraldton and not going , playing the wolves instead of senators.
I think most people can see the good job that trahair is doing in Mandurah , they have been very competitive in most games without stewart, deng and ballyntyne in the last 2-3 weeks. trahair has developed a number of kids including parker, kearing etc . if they part ways they will be back to square one once again.
if lakovic has finished I take my hat off to him he has been invested in the redbacks program and made a huge difference including a title.
people will say he bought a title but isn that what everyone else is doing hawks, wolves etc.
the wolfpack would become more marketable without ettridge he is a good coach but doesn't have the personality . there is more to coaching then X and O "S.
I Think nener is in the same boat as trahair a good coach without the budget , I think the eagles have some very talented kids if they could identify a talented import and coach they could be good for many years to come.
I think as far as looking at coaches, don't you think the heat should be on the teams with the topped up rosters that aren't performing.
my gf tip is gero vs hawks as long as they don't cross paths in the semis.
Magic have money, not Wolves or Hawks Money but they do have money.
But its very hard to get players down to Mandurah.
Trahair doing a great job, have done well bringing Durnin back, at a price but still great get.
Is Grace restricted? If not then keeping him with 2 x imports and your local kids then your competing and more then on right track.
Cockburn is completely another issue.
Not Neener's fault.
No money. Imports for free, u get what u pay for.
But look if every other club is investing money into the SBL program and you decide not to then your only every going to be as good as your locals.
These days if your locals are any good they leave for $100 anyway!
Surely times up for Salinas and Iliadis, gone are the days those two were Curry and Thompson from 3. Funny also to note how their 3-PT%s have dropped way off since getting a regulation court.
Iliadis 2015 v 2019:
FG% : -6.4%
3P% : -7.3%
FT% : -4.6%
RBD : -3.22 rpg
AST : -2.39 apg
PTS : 13.4 ppg
wow spectator maybe a bit disgruntled
maybe instead of placing blame on others for poaching (which ironically has been the model of the current Tigers SBL program) look at why so many of these kids left in one hit. Generally poaching results in 1 kid moving clubs that fits a specific need not a wholesale change with a stream of kids leaving all at once
it was only a few years ago that 3 of tigers most promising juniors in shervill garbellini and selby all left to lakeside in one hit. they left for a reason and a lot probably had to do with the environment within the Tigers program at the time
from all accounts the tigers kids that all moved across to cougars left for similar reasons
Absolutely agree with anon, and Spectator why don't you take a seat champ. Tigers juniors is in absolute shambles after under 16s because it’s a boys club headed up by one Alan Black. His methods are archaic and it’s the same coaches year in year out. It’s no wonder players leave after under 14s, sure Willetton is a powerhouse in juniors, but once everyone figures out their stupid full court press and 'breaker’, it’s game over.
Stats don’t lie, U16s, U18s, 20s and D1 are dominated by Hawks, Wolves and Senators. So how about you have a look at yourself instead of blaming others
