SEM v JJs 5.30 AEDT

Should be a great game, JJs playing with there backs to the wall normally beat all the odds. Can Phoenix bounce back from loss to kings. Hurt and Sobey got perform better than against the kings. If Deng plays imo JJs can win this in a close one.

Would Sixers fans rather see Tassie or SEM get the win? I know the obvious answer is SEM to win, but with a couple more games in hand, it's not impossible Adelaide could take 5th if they keep on rolling?

Ben Ayre plus 40, Wieskamp 5 blocks, 8r and 20 points. JJs have run out of quality troops, the recruiting of Hummer and Terangi does now look inadequate, plus Roth can't still keep pull rabbits out of his bum.
Both Kenyon and Ayre should look for teams that can get more playing time, to good for back bench players.

Kudos to SEM playing together. Sobey has re invented himself to be team first and I am one who did not see that happening, he gets to the bucket dishes out assists and is not pinging up hero ball 3's - respect.

JJs had Magnay, MacDonald, Deng, Drmic out ....along with Gak playing unwell and Doyle getting an ankle injury.

That is 5 core players out, good time for the younguns ie Stoddart and others to get some court time and re tool for next year.

Will be interesting to see the line up next year have said every year they need a scoring 4 man (eg Hurt) and it is now the time.

Yep the recruitment of Hummer was ill timed and a bad move by the JJs.

Scout, Roth said during the Presser that Stoddart is not DP eligible next year. That is disappointing because I don't thing they can use a full roster spot on another guard although Roth didn’t completely rule that out.

They should just cut Brown's roster spot next year and give it to Stoddart

Reply #958805 | Report this post

KL

They could keep Brown as a DP and pay him full roster money. That bit is easy subject to available spend. The upgrade of the 3rd import must happen and also a top end local for McVeigh's if he doesn’t come back. Dunkman suggests Waadenburg and that sounds like a plan to me. No disrespect to Terangi but that would be for his roster spot. Then, where do you find another full roster spot for Stoddart? Is Steindel going to go around again? I would be very surprised if they don’t persist with Gak. What do they do if Armstrong is available? Drmic and Krislovic certainties to return imo and Deng/MacDonald/Magnay all contracted. Headaches for the JJs brains trust but no doubt Roth already knows what he is going to do.

And if Steindel did retire and McVeigh doesn't come back then surely Doyle would be elevated from vice captain to captain. If he naturalises then that would likely be long term.

The other way you open up a spot for a local guard (Stoddart or Armstrong) is if JC doesn't come back. You then get an import at the 3 and 4/5. They were going to go that way with WMW last free agency. Would be a very sad day though if JC didn’t return.

The NBL always include option years so Drmic's deal would've been announced as a 2 year deal if so, like Gak's 2 year deal which is likely an option. The last year of 2 year and 3 year deals usually are some kind of option be it player, mutual or team option.

KL, I would love to see Drmic back at the Sixers pretty sure his wife is from Adelaide too but the Sixers owner has burnt Drmic a couple of times now so doubt it.

Krslovic could be a Sixers target given he played in Adelaide during the off-season. I didn't mind him at Cairns solid back up big.

One things for certain and that is scoring potency will be added. I think I read that the new owner is hoped to be announced soon. If cashed up, JJs might then rival Cats in terms of cash spend and Roth would make that go a very long way. The other thing is that with the evolution of Macdonald as their starting point guard, that creates a lot of options and flexibility in terms of roster construction of itself.

Issue with Fab is he has had to be the main big - he has played a couple of good games hitting a couple of 3's and getting some buckets around the basket. He is not the main 5 but has had to play that role this season.

If Krslovic is retained it needs to be as a 5 - 10 minute player at most not as he is playing 20 up. Stiendl has also had increased minutes and while he played ok I'm not sure of his D now has slowed down a bit but plays smart and hits shots still.

It is easy to have a crack at a roster when 5 of their core players are not fit: MacDonald, Magnay, Deng, Drimic (unwell) and Doyle rolled an ankle. The JJs have always relied on next man up and it has given Stoddart time on the court but it can only work with one or two injuries / outs not 5!!

I'd target Smith as a long term ie at least 3 year player who would get minutes alongside MAcDonald, Stoddart and Doyle.

While Gak has improved he has not given great minutes.

Hummer is definite out, Roth like Te Rangi (rightly so) I am not sure of who the other definite outs are Gak is vulnerable. If Fab is out it probably indicates a change in game style as he has been solid.
